Title: Here it "tiz" November, Turkey day around the corner & coffee
Post by: Major 2 on October 31, 2014, 10:58:22 PM
All Saints are put to bed, I suppose ..we had none, never do
Non lighted country roads..and 1/4 - 1/2 mile between gates.
Then my house sets back 350' + from the road.... :)

Was feeling puny after dinner ( a chef salad ) so I hit the rack about dark,  had to check the plumbing a bit ago and feel OK now....
Gonna crank up the crock pot in the morning, my plan is to have it slow cooking 6-8 hours....

News @ 6PM , may do photos  :P

Weather is holding, high thin clouds, calm, very mild, NWS says it's still 73* out, guess I'll be waiting for "the other shoe to drop"; seems when things get too quiet, it's gonna do something.

Went out and hung my neon punkins and sat out in front of the garage for a few hours, gave away six pounds of teeth destroyers.  There were some cute little kids, and some not-so-cute bigger ones, but for the most part, they were all very circumspect.  One "Tinker Bell" knock off got extra candy, though: she was about a couple or some inches shy of three feet tall, and done to a T.  She was in a bunch of older kids, and they just sort of absorbed her as they came up the drive..  As I dropped some gelt into their bags, they sort of melted away, and there she was; she looked at me and, in a quite mature fashion said: "Nice beard." - not trick or treat, and then she just stood there smiling at me.  I guess I have a soft spot for spunky little girls.  Since I am a pretty good Santa doppelganger, I will try to see if I can give the Jolly Old Fat Man a heads up and hope she has a good Christmas, too.

It's gettin' late; think I'll start for the hay pile.

Later.

Mornin, coffee and tea are ready. Grankids made a haul last night, I predict a month or two of sugar highs leading into a Santa hyperactivity. Time to feed the horses.

Thanks for the Cawffee this morning, Tom. We did not have any trick or treaters last night. It is still outside and we have cold front, with highs in the high 60s. I don't think that the heat is completely over for the year.

Went out this morning and picked up some new birch flooring for my “eclectic” den (to be installed in about a week, once it acclimates, and I get the cr@p moved to other regions of the domicile.

Then went and stocked up on firewood for the fireplace.  $40 filled the 4 runner even with the back seats folded down.

Doing grilled pork steak with  rice for dinner tonight.

Picked up pulled pork and slaw from local joint on the way to work.

I need to get Firewood this week. Also think it is cool enough to start using the dutch oven outside again.  Thinking some kind of previously breathing beast (four legged kind) maybe try a loaf of bread in the other.

Meantime back to work

Alas, poor Fred.........................

Roasts er 'bout the werse for olfactory assaults. Even them hunks of leg I do fer me when I can find nice specimens produce the heavenly fragrence.

Don't unnerstand the effort ta make a foo-foo pretty plate. Yer gonna mess it up when ya go after it with a fork, spoon er chop sticks ennyways. Why the effort? Dunk a ladle in it 'n plop it down – sit 'n eat.

Beef Vegetable Soup did it again. Right nice. Still amazes me what me 'n her (local school board grammar) can do to a gallon of the stuff. New mugs are pretty handy. Just made two trips.

Yeah... agreed but I figure for a photo... what the hey !

I always get a kick and rise when I'm severed some fancy something, like maybe dessert  and they dribble raspberry syrup around the featured piece for presentation  ::)

I sometime I'd mess with them and say " hey... suppose I could get a CLEAN plate ?  "
often doesn't get the humored response I'm seeking.....

But then...I don't care  ;)

I think before I put the Crock pot away for the week, I'll hit the local store for a Brisket or something Beef...

Chilly out,  see'n' 42° on the spirit thingy, when I took Jake out to drain , feels cooler with wind.

Mornin'.

'Bout the same as yestitty without as much rain. Ain't thinkin' there's anymore acorns left ta hit the roof. Still breezy.

Got cheffin' things ta do. Engage in some explorin' after while.  Consume mass quantities of fake beer while watchin' the teams I pull for embarrass themselves later on. Do my best ta plate prissier this evenin'.

Happy "Daylight Wasting Day" to all! I figger if you can save daylight by setting your clock forward, then setting it back must be wasting daylight. I'd rather set it forward a couple more hours, so it'd be light for a while after I get home from work.

Evenin' y'all.

Show here has consisted of pizza the past two nights.  Only got a carbonated beverage with one, though.  I must say, milk isn't exactly the best thing to go with "Hawaiian Delight"   :-\

Last night had my amigo over, and we listened to the MSU Bobcat vs. Cal Poly Mustang game.  Bobcats lost their running back on the second(?)  play.  Cat's lost 27-35.  oh well... ::)

Temperature this morning in our protected little valley was a chilly 33.  High was about 40.  There's a goodly amount of snow on all the mountains.

Gooood Eeeefenink.  Coffee is good, only my third cup today.  Had a busy one: wifely person in for a bosom mashing x-ray, then took her out for brunch - I had pancakes and such, too, LIT.  Fetched Bella from escuela, sashayed by the library, and then did my civic obligation.  Here, our ballots have a "None Of These" option for all partisan offices; this is the first time I think I have ever used it.  A sad turn of affairs, that.

Got us some really nice weather, fall has come and is already on it's way out the door - winter is knockin'.  Got up to about 70 here today, only 63 yesterday, and windy.

You fellers and your stew and gumbos got me jonesin' for something along those lines; I'm thinking I might do some of my version of Pasta Fagiolli tomorrow, along with some crusty bread and a salad.  It is getting into soup season, although for us, that is pretty much any time we want it.

So, on with the rest of the evenin'; catch y'all later.

'Bout like yestitty out.

Wish that were the outcome, Roo. 'Fraid, save a favorable recount, this once great commonwealth's stuck with Warner 'nother six years. The polls had 'im up 7%, the margin was/is closer to .6%. Damn near gettin' beat won't make no difference. He's a democrat 'n the party comes 'fore the people.

The screwed up ipads didn't help the enemy's warrior against the war on wimmen in the 2nd. The car salesmen owned 'er by better'n 17% district wide. Heck, even Norfolk didn't fall for the bull-patooey chosen by her handlers 'n given her to spout. Rejected 'er by o'er 8%. When yer a democrat 'n Norfolk tosses ya, that's bad. Mebbe the 'centrist' lie back fired. Even a fool knows there are no 'centrist democrats' 'n Norfolk's got plenty fools.

We screwed ourselves in duh beach locally. Kept too many developers' puppets on council. Did pretty good cleanin' the school board up a l'il. Where the cost of fishing is $24 bucks.

Arcey- i am sorry for my commrades and commrettes in the the commiewealth of Virginia. <authors artistic use of words in referring to the Commonwealth. Fairfax county needs to relocate their liberal asses somewheres else. They tend to control the future of all of Virginia. The Purple is not pretty.  It was a close race for a political unknown and maybe now the incumbent will pay attention to the people. Unlikely though, hopefully he will keep from running for the head office a hour north.
Tex i think the woman mentioned above maybe finished with politics in Texas. I didn't listen to Michael Berry last night but i am sure he was estatic over her loss.

In Alabama- remained Red. Job growth still rising here. . 4 Admendments were passed that will ensure the freedoms we are allready granted. From the trampled on parchment that patriots like myself cling too. It in most part keep them from being ever being brought to change. G'mornin, the cawfee is good this morning.  Like TLD is wont to say, it's a two pot morning.  I have an appointment with a gent from a garage door company this morning, door opener blew it's top a couple of months ago, and the door is way too long in the tooth, so time to get it all replaced, methinks.

On the political spectrum: Nevada turned a pretty shade of fuschia last night, more "red" than "blue" - whoever designated those colors needs to have their head examined; they're backwards - now.  But we're still stuck with a pretty liberal bunch here in Clark County - and good ol'  Harry.  That guy needs to be retired, but I think he has designs on being another Thurmond, he's goona die in office, and expect a big state funeral.

Oh, well.  The door guy is on his way, gotta go move the pickup so's we can peruse the mess.

Later.

The then great commonwealth of Virginia granted land to the federal government in the beginning. The land was to be the seat of government for the several states. It became part of DC. The capitol was a geographic, perfect square of equal, straight borders and four 90º corners.

Following the war of northern aggression, the land was taken back by the commonwealth's legislature. It became NoVa. Without it, our electorial votes wouldn't have gone to the current occupant of the white house (lower case intended) or her husband. Without it, we'd have a new senator. Without it, we wouldn't have a Clinton shake down artist in Richmond as governor.

I join other Virginians in their call to give the cesspool back to the feds. Or, annex the damned place to The Peoples Republik of Maryland.

Oh yeah i did get some fudge also.
Left there went to a outlet center across the highway. Didn't need nikes sunglasses or a new suit. I did find a kitchen store, pickup my first ceramic knife and a silcon baking pan.

Not sure, it is a bit bigger than a paring knife but had a chef knife shaped blade. Wasn't very expensive. It slices and dices paper even thinner. I think it will have to stay in protective sheath when not in use. I will test it soon. If it as good as you claim i maybpick up another r 2. I have a pretty good set now. Also some old carbon steel blades. I use a steel rod to keep them that way. Not sure how you sharpen ceramic.

Rained here started about 4am it has slowed to a mist. Not sure what is going to happen rest of the day.
Coffee now and some breakfast a little later.

TK the price i stated did not include the pirated outdoorsman tax that is added. So you can use the lake or rivers. Not needed if you are some pothead hippie hiking the trail.

Ya'll have a safe day

Kyocera offers a sharpener. Ain't needed one. They'll resharpen or replace their stuff for the cost of postage for life or until they go outta business. Use the knives the way the info sez 'n I ain't thinkin' yer gonna need one either. 'Fore I knew ya weren't supposed ta do it, I cut on a glass board with the Yoshi – for a good while. I never let instructions get in the way of my ignorance.

Bought the Yoshi, a cheap BOGO thing 'As Seen on TV,' mostly as a joke on Ali, guessin' four or five years ago. Cut the potatoes 'n carrots with it this mornin'. Got the Kyoceras but they're inna block on the other side the kitchen. The cheap one's closer, in its sheath hidin' behind the toaster. The toaster sits to the upper right hand corner of the Redskins cuttin' board my stuff's on when I post food pics. That's where I werk 'n it gets grabbed first when I ain't got much ta do.

I've decided if I ever grow up I'm going to be a SOB, have created a minor panic with the un-washed masses I know, luckily I don't know a lot of them.

I make a point a lot of times that before you go all panicky and cry "The Sky is Falling"  you should learn all the facts, if you don't want to learn the facts then don't panic.   Funny how not knowing the true meaning of words causes so much problems, if this goes viral it could ruin Smuckers.

" Well as I sit here and work, I realize we don't have enough to worry about so in case you don't know it, pectin a natural occurring carbohydrate in fruit is used to make jellies and jams gel. Well according to the research when heated for a long enough time to a high enough temperature, pectin forms long polymer chains. Now we all know polymer is the term they want us to use for plastic today because plastic somehow became a term for cheap polymers years ago.

So the pulp in jam and the skins in fruit preserves just add reinforcement for the plastic, like the cloth in old time Bakelite or the glass cloth in epoxy bases structures.

Hmmm, food for thought, I think I need another cup."

Yep, at least one person so far was never going to eat jelly because Polymers are bad.

Mention chemicals and they go ape poop on it.   Ain't smart enough to know everything is made up of chemicals, the forget you need to mention the word "harmful" in them.  Just hate riding or driving Rita's Buick SUV thing, I'm afraid someone will think I'm a Yuppie.

Not "Space Age" plastics, ones that's been around for millions of years.

It's a crossover. Whatever that is.  ::)

Not quite a mini-van and less of a off road than a real SUV.    ::)

Evenin' y'all.

Today went pretty well, though I think our family has the "curse of the third gear."  Every driver in the family (me, and both parents) all tried to start off in third gear, multiple times.  I actually only did once...  In this tiny car, the gears are so close together.  For comparison, the lateral distance between first and fifth in the Subaru is less than between first and third on my Ranger.  :o

Did have a Spanish test today.  I think I did okay.  Hope I'm right about that.

Mornin'.

Guessers say it should be right pretty the next few days.

SUVs, crossovers, they're marketin' terms. Both be station wagons. One's built tuffer'n the other is all.

Housewife stuff ta do. Since I'm old with unreasonable wants, such as vehicle what has the drive wheels in the back 'n built body on frame, like the good ole days of the 50s, I reckon I'll put on some heels, a knee length dress 'n evenin' gloves 'fore I wash dishes 'n push a vacuum. Just like ya see in era ads 'n on the TV.

I think an "SUV" is a station wagon with a truck frame. and a "crossover" must be a station wagon with unibody.

Mice are small game for a Great Horned Owl. Since it takes about two dozen of them to keep him going all day, the owl is always on the lookout for something bigger. The last thing I'd wan. Is one of those big bird grabbing for my beard - my throat is right behind it & I've seen what those talons can do.

It was right chilly here this morning. 33 with a WC of 24 :o

Did my rounds and discovered some damage in the barn/club house. Cover for a not used anymore switch box was busted. Not sure when it was done, barn was used a couple times this week. Checked with the boss to see if we had any laying around that I hadn't noticed, zip. Had to go to the hardware and pick a few up. Repair made now, barn is rented both days this weekend, so this was a safety concern.

Had grands over night again,SWMBO is taking them home now and is stopping at off site pantry for makin's for a pot of chili. Command performance,I guess ::)

Stopped by Honey Bee GC on the way ta HT for more stuff. Caught the fish-breathed avian at the osprey nest. Saw 'n talked with the real photgraphers.

Didn't get much at HT. Think she was shopped out from the Walmart experience.

This afternoon, went to the property for what looks like the last time.   Had some good hamburgers.  Pulled about three chihuahuas worth of fur off the big dog.  :o

Menards ...heard of them, know the kid or someone related races NASCAR and they are in the Mid West ... beyond that, none in the South.
We've got Home Depot & Loews,  and there are or were several other home improvement center chains that went belly up
like Scotty's , Builders Square, Gold Triangle , Home Quarters , Lindsley Lumber Co.
Of those, only Home Quarters did not have stores in Florida ( though I'd shop there in Virginia ) and there's probably 6 Home Depot's in short driving distance, before you get to a Loews , lease here anyway.
I do quite a bit of Business with HD and have contractor account with them & Loews...

Weather is gloomy today gray, chilly & rainy about 60° ....left over roast & spuds is in the crock pot warming for this evening
Nathan's dogs for lunch...me thinks  :)

Recycle Russ ... I know you can recycle the pad ....
course the most fun you'll have is the perimeter tack strips ... nasty little stabbers they are  ::)

You can have our Menards, won't go back to the North one at all, they are lucky the place survived in tact after my problems with them, went to pick up something my wife bought the day before with my pick-up, finally went in an Emplyee's only door and found some doing nothing.  Then they wanted me to come back cause they couldn't find the stuff, finally did.  Then I told the gate guy if he didn't want me to drive right on through the gate don't open it.

I plan on cutting the stuff into 2’x12’ (the room is 12’ wide) strips before I pull it.  Then roll it up as I go.  Should make it fairly easy to handle.
She-who-still-works was nice enough to empty all her outside plants into the trash today, so I have no room to put the carpet.  I guess I pile it in the garage next to her car as a smidge of payback.
I use a pair of channellock  pliers to get ahold of the critter, so I keep my fingers away from that “tacky” strip.
Have to switch to her laptop tomorrow, as the mainframe (my desktop is going away for the duration, shortly).

There's a story of a local Chili contest, one of the winners was asked what his secret was. His answer: he went to the local grocery store, and bought one can of each brand of canned chili they had, and dumped them all into one big pot, stirred it up and heated it up and Voila! Winning chili!

Had about everything but chili at the church dinner today, still too full to eat anything.

Finally got the old "A" Farmall going good today, had to give up on the carb that was on it and take one off another tractor I had. Took that one apart, sprayed some canned carb cleaner through all the passages, put back together and it runs like a top. Even started it with the crank once, took three pulls. Old carb must have some hidden chunk of crud that just won't come out. Even soaked it in carb cleaner for 3 or 4 days once.

I'm hard core about my chili, very traditional, real meat not burger, tomatoes, some onions and my spice mix of 1/2 ground cumin, 1/4th ground coriander and 1/4 oregano and the red only pepper mix to suit the crowd, ain't done till the wooden spoon will stand on it own, no added thickener, just simmered down 8-12 hours.

If you want green peppers in it, gonna get it with pork and tomatillas  not maters as per traditions older than us, old traditions need to be followed or them yuppie liberals will gain another toehold, saw two of them in Prius when I was heading to work, they drove on past the turn off and headed on east, was afraid they'd show up, come in and then pretend like they actually knew what they were talking about.    No yuppies today, just a few wanna be red-necks, just about as bad as yuppies.

Mornin'.

Should be fairly decent out.

The canned chili thing's kinda neat, Maj. Remembered I'd forgot I was supposed ta be doin' din-din awhile back. Time was tight. Grabbed 60¢ canned vegetable soups of various receipts (can't spell recipe) from Dollar General. Hit Food Lion for some cow meat. Put it all tagether 'n dumped some oregano 'n a bay leaf in with it 'n set the pot on high. Come out right tolerable. Fat lady thought it was pretty good but wondered where I got the l'il animal shaped pasta thingys floatin' 'round in it.

Killed the left overs yesterevenin'. Thinkin' on fish for the evenin'.

OK, this is something that developed a couple years ago when I was making Irish Soda bread, , a friend with a bit of food knowledge also was in the crowd watching and he knew I would follow his lead well, we’ve done it a couple times all impromptu and I decided to write a basic script up in case I want to do it some time when John ain’t around, all someone needs to do is home in on the key words and make it up as they go along.

By-stander: What are those little round things you are adding to that?

Me: Those are currants.

By-stander: My Grandma had some currant bushes and she made currant jelly.

Me: These are not the same currants; these are a small seedless raisin made from a small grape native to the Mediterranean region and named currant for the isle of Curin.   The currant your Grandma made the jelly from is a bush related to the gooseberry,

By-stander: Oh, my Great Aunt used to raise Cape-gooseberries and made preserves out of them.

Me: Well that ain’t the same thing either, the gooseberry I’m talking about that is related to currant is really nothing but a currant that has thorny stems instead of being thornless  and the fruit is generally picked green instead of ripe.

The Cape gooseberry is related to the tomato and the tomatillo, it has a smaller fruit that turns a yellowish color and has a husk on it like a tomatillo.  They are often called ground cherries.

By-stander: Well I like cherry pie.

Me: Yeah but that cherry is from the rose family and is related to apples and strawberries.

And that is why we have taxonomic names, to avoid the confusion with common names, except they keep changing some of those also.

Could get Pony Express to do it at a muster, I bet you could pull it off, I am sure Dale or Jerry could not do it with a straight face and it wouldn't work if someone giggled.

Hmmm. Snow already in Memphis and Little Rock, but none so far in my part of Missouri, couple hundred miles north of those. Supposed to get some on Saturday(opening day) So I'll be sitting in a tree in the snow.

TK, just take it easy trailering with the Subaru, you should be fine. Don't be afraid to pull hills in  a lower gear. More important, don't let it push you too much going down.

Guy I used to work for had a 70's Subaru Brat he used to pull a decent size boat around with, I think only thing he changed on it was the carb, put an aftermarket Weber on it, said it couldn't pull the boat up the ramp before he did that.

We had Dinty Moore and biscuits last night ;D

21 here, sun's up and we've got frost on the grass. Have had one dog out, rest are still sleeping with SWMBO. Think they're getting into their winter mode. Got my fingers crossed that the mileage rebate from KIA gets here before our first appreciable snow fall. Front tires on the hamstermobile are pretty thin tread-wise. Would like to do 4, but will have to settle for two at the moment ::) :(

Afraid  sweet and Pizza don't go together for me.... Spam. Ham or Wham & Pineapple  ::)  nope
nor jam pie filling & Cinnamon either.... a Pizza Hut thing  ::)

the BBQ Pizza I've had ..tiz sOK  :-\

Pepperoni. sausage, bacon, onion, mushrooms, green peppers, black olives... you know the standard stuff....
I got combo's of all those...

it wasn't the Frito & chili idea so much, as the chili sauce (Papa John made ) sucked ...available as limited trial...good thing too, it's awful.

No Snow predicted ..well,  Never really , was a tad cool-ish around 59° this morning.
But after tomorrow's rain prediction (that cold front ) we'll see 58° for our high, & 39 ° low in the early morning...

Thank's for the coffee....

Weather started out clear and cold. No deer showed near my stand. Came down and went to church. Snow started there. drive home was exciting. driving piecefully along at about 45, suddenly the back end skids right.....corrected, now I'm going straight but in the wrong lane. Try to gently drift back, and it does it again! Get straight again, then it skids to the left AGAIN, all the while I got my feet off of EVERYTHING, seems like we're accelerating. Didn't come out of this one, until the Trailblazer left the pavement onto the grass shoulder, then it corrected and we hit the sloped embankment at a shallow angle and came to a stop. No damage to car, now wife knows why this mailman hates SN**!! Good thing God was with us on the way home, and not only in Church!

Actually everything on the shelves came off and went into boxes that then went back on the shelves in order.  The furniture only works in the places they were originally were put.  Did take a picture of the wall I painted an accent color (was off white like the rest of the room) to make sure I got all the plaques and stuff back in order.

Well, we got the snow as advertised :o Started at 6 this morning and finished at 2:30 this afternoon. About 5 inches of the evil white stuff. We plowed the park three times in addition to our regular routine and shoveling mail box areas and around the barn/club house. Hopefully we won't have to salt tonight once the sun goes down.... :P :-\

'Anything' kinda leaves the door open, Roo.

Reminds me, hadda seriously attractive, well dressed young woman with no inappropriate piercin's or visible tats hit me up for money in the off site's parkin' lot this mornin'. 'Anythin'' coulda meant a lot to a dirty ole man.

Caught a bird at Baxter 'n Princess Anne on 'their' cell tower. Got parked 'n watched 'er thru the sun roof. Wanted 'er ta fly. Already got captures of 'er sittin' right there. Shot a few like I got 'n left 'er sittin' there. Ain't got all day, bird.

Meat loaf, gravy, mashed 'taters, left o'er mixed greens. Right decent.

Mornin, thanks for the coffee M2.

It is 37 here in Chesapeake and still dropping, the low is supposed to hit around 9AM and the wind is supposed to pick up.

One of the nice things about living where there is a lot of open area, the breezes keep it from getting too hot in in summer. Unfortunately those same breezes make it cold as heck in the winter.

Fir's crackling in the stove, water and coffee should stay hot for a while after I venture out to work in a few.

Off today, had a rough day at work yesterday getting stuff ready for you know what.   Ended up printing tags at the store in Columbus 100 miles away, decided to call them and see if they'd deliver them, nope, had to reprint them on a Lincoln printer.  LOL  They were glad I called because they were confused why their printer had spit them out for an item they don't carry.  LOL

Express my sympathy ta Elizabeth for me, cuz.......

Saw birds, didn't shoot 'em. Pulled the binoculars ta look the GC o'er. Spotted HK er Sterling, one the two, in the air headin' north. Way too far off.

Hit the SportsPlex. Spied one the Landstown birds circlin' 'n lost it in the sun. Turnt the station wagon 'round 'n couldn't find it. Headin' out, spotted she/he again. Pulled the station wagon off the road 'n watched it hover then dive.  Prolly for somethin' warm 'n fuzzy. Disappeared behind the trees the reappeared above 'em climbin' 'n headin' north towards the hospital. That's a heck of a sight, fellas. Couldn't see what got got 'n it happened too fast for me ta try a shot.

By then it was almost ten. Went ta Sam's 'n scored some dope. Then home to household drudgery. Try again tomorrow.

Fish w/ horseradish 'n wild rice. Hope ta heck I nail the collards next week they way I did this evenin' with the ones the fat lady brought home from school. Ham seasonin', didn't have any salt pork, a sprinkle of a local done pepper blend I picked up at a food truck redeo 'n a drop of cider vinegar. Just did get a bowlful. Cooked down ta not much.

21 here this morning. Sunny hope it will double the number little later. Trip to Gadsden  was  good.  I lost my virginity to Hobby Lobby. Yesterday. In my defence is ws adjoined by Gander Mountain. Bigger and a bit nicer than the ones in Virginia. Also at a larger Academy Outdoors. Catfish dinner followed the travels. Brought plenty of leftovegs home for todays meal.

Got a little fence to repair this morning and want to cover the firewood pile. Short of that  i can sit with my feet up all day.

Congrats to you and yer missus, LIT, that's a good long run; many happy returns.

Thanks for the cuppajoe, I'm in serious need it seems.  Tastes good.

Went to see my Primary Care Doc this AM, and stopped in at the resident vampire while I was there.  Came directly home for my coffee infusion; feel better now.

We got some snow on the mountain I noticed this morning.  Weather here is cool by the standard being set elsewhere, but to us, it's sort'a cold.  Was in the high forties this AM, fifty something, now, overcast and dead calm.  According to the weather prognosticators, it's gonna be one of those winters where we get one front after another marching through from the Pacific, most from the Gulf of Alaska, and cold.  Maybe this mess will drop plenty of s*** on the western front of the Colorado Rockies and and the Wasatch Ranges in northern Utah, and give us some much needed water in the Colorado River watershed next spring.

Gonna go mess around with the day and see if I can get something useful done.

Later.

Evening Y'all.

Had an interesting encounter with a deer last night while driving home from band practice.  A doe crossed the road in front of me, making me slow down to avoid hitting it.  The doe was followed by two fawns and a buck.  All of them decided it would be a good idea to stand in the middle of the road and stare into my headlights.  After a while of this, one of the fawn came up and began sniffing the hood.  After sniffing a while, he wound up, and gave the bumper a good boot, and ran off.  I didn't hit him, he hit me. ::)

rain has infested our little valley.  about an inch overnight.  About a foot of white stuff above 5000 feet.  All the animals are coming down to the lower elevations to winter.  This is making the roads hazardous.

Y'all keep warm and dry.

Back out the garage 'n start down the street when it's cold out 'n my pressure light's lit. Point it towards the range, tires get warm it goes out. Get in ta go home after she's sat 'n the light's on. Get ta Wakefield 7 er 8 miles east 'n it's off the rest the way home. I quit werrin' 'bout it.

Had a grand time huntin' with cuz Tom this morn. Went ta the GC 'n caught HK on the branch where he likes ta take live things warm 'n fuzzy or cold 'n scaly 'n bodily rip 'em apart. A real photographer, Jim Yenello, was all set up 'n waitin' for HK ta fly. While I decided ta take pictures of a duck, HK hauled a$$. I got one shot. Took a walk along the river 'n found 'im in 'nother tree 'bout a hundred years from where 'e was. Was gettin' a shot lined up, shifted my stance 'n stepped inna freakin' hole. While I was cussin' the hole, HK vacated the premises.

No luck at other spots. Went 'n ate hot dogs.

Spaghetti w/ hunks of smoked sausage buried in it 'n grated Parmesan. Sandman's hidin' 'round the corner 'n be sneakin' up on my l'il ole self anytime now.....

I put some Texas Pete on my sandwich. I bought a bottle on Arcey's recommendation. It is still new around here, it is made in North Carolina. Breakfast is later. I am shopping for a holster for my new revolver. No clue for lunch or supper.

Somewhere in Norfolk but at 12 I was too young for someone ta blame or sue for child support. Forty four years ago I walked thru the back door of the public safety buildin' as a full time police employee for the first time. Had my own key.

Green nummers on the station wagon's dash board read 27.

Acted onna SWAG. The investigator left in me told me not ta dismiss it 'fore I checked it out myownself. Found a bird third place I looked. All spots within' a couple thousand feet or so 'n less than a mile from the nest, two from the house. Pulled the station wagon inta a parkin' lot but the bird flew 'fore I could shoot it.

Gonna keep where mum 'til I make a capture. Then I'll be yellin'.

Gotta scare up some breakfast.

I didn't hear about it until after the school day ended.
There was a real Hate-Love relation with the Kennedy's in the deep South during this time.
This may account for there being no announcements being made over the School intercom?
Along with all the school name changes the fallowing year, NASA's Cap Canaveral was changed to Cap Kennedy.

I was 5 then, suppose I was in kindergarden. I do remember it being on the TV, pre-empting whatever cartoon I wanted to watch at the time(That might have been the funeral, though....after all, I was just 5).

Didn't have an intercom in our school to announce it, we just had 4 rooms, kindergarden had one, all the next six grades were two to a room. Teacher still rang a big hand bell to signal recess.

I was with my crew drilling rock for dynamite loads to blast out holes to set power poles in, Stovepipe Canyon/Pipes Canyon north of Yucca Valley, California.  That was a long day; our job got put on hold and we sat out the rest of the day waiting for something to happen, and The Navy contacted me through my employer and put me on short notice standby for recall for a couple of days.

Thanks for the coffee this morning.  Cool here, was 42 when I turned on the infernal machine; clear/high thin clouds to the north, slight breeze.

El Peludo,

It was about 12 years after the Kennedy Ass. that I got into hard rock mining.
I finished School and spent two years with Underwater Salvage Diving, four years in the Navy in Aviation Ordnance and two years going to gunsmith school.
Hard rock mining paid good for the time period. I was a Raise Bore operator. The crew drilled 8 foot to 12 foot dia. holes in solid rock with this machine, and did all of our own drilling, loading and shooting.
I am glad for the experience. Don't think I would have wanted to do it for the next 35 to 40 years.
My best,

Been a high thin overcast here all day.  Only made it to 44, but still no rain.

The pre-thanksgiving Thanks giving went off fine,  The turkey and all the trimmin’s can together at the same time, and nobody left the table hungry.  Even lit a fire in the fireplace afterwards to accompany some libation and conversation.

Just got home from a two day camping trip with my amigo.  We went out to an old log deck, set up a fire ring and then... were told to sleep in the back of the Chevy van... ???  oh well.
This morning, we cooked sausage and eggs over an oak fire, with some apple cider.  In the afternoon, we went dove hunting.   I swear that the squirrels around here are bullet-proof. ::)  hit one with a 20 gauge, full choke.  It tossed the squirrel several inches into the air, but this squirrel will live to throw acorns another day. :-[

It was predictable. Be interestin' ta see if they tear up DC when the DoJ don't do what they want. When it finally dies out, the mainstream will find 'nother incident ta shade 'n fan the flames with slanted, 'n/or altered (NBC) presentations, ala Martin, Brown, et al.

Mornin'.

Errands ta run 'n things ta get to. Pick up a couple things at an off sight. Laney's cookin' dinner tomorrow evenin'. Wow, seems like just yeste.... N'ermind, old age 'n time happens.

Ennyways, can't do no serious huntin'. In the course of travels, or maybe a l'il off course, yestitty, did find Baxter on the same osprey nest I caught 'im in on Saturday 'n Sunday. The boy either really likes the place or 'e's got a foot stuck in it er sumthin'. Didn't find Princess Anne.

Not surprised here either bout the events last night. Heard about the Cleveland thing on the radio. Funny thing, race was not mentioned at all in the story I heard.

Leftover biscuits and gravy for breakfast here, decided to fry up a couple eggs to go with it. As they were cooking in the pan, I open the drawer to get a spatula, and.....none! We got 4 or so of the things, none to be found. Ended up using a plastic serving spoon. Either the wife has found a new place to keep them, that only makes sense to a Philippine Female mind, or the toddler has set herself up an alternate kitchen somewhere in the house.

Cops killed in the past month 2 black men in B'ham- black cops,  just a mention on local news. The Teaparty channel is just as guilty as the others for sensationalizing Ferguson. Thanks fer the coffee.

Dad was admitted to the Oshkosh hospital yesterday. Low hemoglobin which is causing fluid retention in his lungs. Gonna go see him tonight or tomorrow morning 'fore we go to Marshfield for the weekend.

Fed the horses and checked the fence. Got some repairs to do in the spring.

Going to the in-laws for turkey lunch.

Turkey* is done, Sweet potato pie* is done, candied sweet potatoes in oven, green bean casserole about to go in. Soon be over stuffed.

*1 Actually a 3lb turkey breast chunk. There's only the 4 of us(2 that don't eat much) anyway.

*2 Didn't want to experiment with making a pie today, and Wally World grocery was sold out of frozen pumpkin pie, but had 3 Sweet potato left. Besides, just buying the spices I don't have already costs more than buying the pie.

Turkey was o'ercooked but no one 'cept me knew or noticed. Good 'n moist. First one I've done inna long time with crispy skin. Was kinda proud of that 'n the wimmen, true ta form, pulled it off. Tiz why it makes no difference on birds out the pots. Gotta 'nuff left for a couple pots of soup.

Evening y'all.

Trip south went well.  Got to meet my cousin's baby for the first time.  Saw some of the family for the first time in 4-6 years.  That was pretty nice.

Had a bit of a fender bender on the way down.  Trying to switch lanes.  Mother was saying go, dad was saying stay in the lane, younger siblings were yelling rather loudly about something.  Some guy in a Mercedes came through the red light behind, and... Bump!  Nobody was hurt, and the extent of the damage was some dented plastic trim, and a smashed mirror.  The guy was not too worried about it.  Still scared the bejeebers out of me.

Thanks for the kind words 'n accurate description by PE. Had the 'stache since birth. Still mostly brown, just different shades........

NCIS. Fat lady loves it. She also loves Family Feud. Nice program. Shows the beautiful mountains in the background it Little Creek. 'Course there ain't none in the background it Little Creek but it's TV.

Turned up nothin' huntin' first thing. Photographer behind the dentist office already. Prolly camped out there. Didn't know 'er, didn't stop ta talk. Still a l'il dark 'n she mighta called the police.

Took the fat lady ta Sam's, didn't get nothin'. Went ta Alice's for more collards, she's sold out. While there went for licorice it the bakery place, sold out. Small Business Saturday craft show. Place was packed.

Left the market 'n went ta hunt the SportsPlex 'cross the road. The athletic field's entrances are gated 'n locked. Didn't see none with the binoculars. Left there, or 'their' if yer a highly educated, left leanin' pilot board poster, 'n went ta the GC. Found who I think was HK 'n the bird flew. Found 'im again 'n he flew again. Ended up in his favorite Bald Cypress tree. Way too far off 'n wanted some flight shots. Drove to the condo complex PL. Bad angle. Flew 'n I didn't get squat anyway. Tired of messin' with 'im. Didn't look no more. Left.

Went to Kroger. Wanted coffee. Coffee vendor is Starbucks 'n they're, 'there' if yer a well educated, left leanin' pilot board poster, sold out the blonde stuff. Gimme a sample cup of sumthin' the kid called mild. I called it burnt. Give it back ta 'im. Didn't get no coffee. Chicken breasts 99¢ a pound 'n there ain't much ah nuttin' in the freezer. Sold out. Did think seriously 'bout a 20 pound turkey for 69¢ a pound but the way my luck was runnin' decided against it.

Ate leftovers again. Belly's full.  Sunrise be comin' right at 0700 tomorrow, wanna be out huntin'. Been up since 0400. Gonna hit the rack 'n ferget taday happened.

No luck findin' Princess Anne or Baxter. No photographers hangin' 'bout either.

HK was on the eatin' branch at the GC, 'bout 400 yards off. Waited for flight. A pro, as in one who makes a livin' at it, showed 'n started walkin' to the point along the river. Bird flew the last time I did that. Got out the station wagon 'n got ready. Sure 'nuff, the bird flew – the wrong way.

Try again 'fore the games start. Breakfast time.

Afternoon y'all.

I'm about done with people for the next few decades.  If one more stoner asks me if my pine cones are candy, I'm going to become violent.   ::)

On the hair topic, mine's dark brown.  ;)  Working on the 'stache.

When I had hair, It was reddish brown. The little bit of hair that I have left is grey. The Tex-Mex food was good. The temps are crazy, it is 70 outside, with a low of 41. We have some cool weather coming next week.
