...or, "A Tale of Two s/n 1's" This nickled .44 Colt Richards is s/n 1, belonging to Drew Causey (CAS alias Sam McDermott). The Uberti 1861 with Kirst Konverter was the first of many guns that were converted by "Raven" (Jay Strite). It was completely defarbed and stamped with s/n 1. I wrote about this gun previously here:
https://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php?topic=62608.0Drew and I worked together at Texas Instruments for a long time, and played together in a band with some coworkers in the '80's. He is also the one who got me to try out CAS. I knew he had this ASM Richards, which he bought from Bob Taylor at Traditional Effects around '99. Bob was a Cimarron Dealer and gunsmith and friends with Mike Harvey, and he put together a lot of the Richards from parts of disassembled guns after ASM's quality went in the toilet.
Drew had a retirement party a little over a year ago, so I brought my s/n 1 and he got out his Richards for a photo session. He took the pics with his phone (I'm still a flip-fone guy and I forgot my camera) and then forgot to send them to me for a year. Sorry the pics with leather aren't real clear. Drew and his partner Bill Stout (R.I.P.) worked as Lone Star Leather. Drew made all the gear in the photos.
Drew hadn't shot matches for a long time but is getting back to it recently since retiring, so perhaps this gun will get shot more now. Black Powder, of course!
