I used to do a lot of rabbit trapping as a teenager arouond Ryde and North Ryde (suburbs of Sydney). We used to walk around before and after school with an air rifle or semi auto 22 and nobody tool a bit of notice, we used to hide the gear in the bush behind the bus depot near the school. Stood on the side of a busy road shooting startlings and indian mynas (both pests) off the power and phone cables (we called them telegraph poles and lines, even thought the telegraph wasn't used much). Imagine doing that nowadays. As boring Bob said we are now living in "Strange days indeed!" Mick.

Mick, They were the days. you would not be game to do that now you would end up in jail.

My son was a quiet but good boy. He wasn't much of an athelete and came last in a long distance (for him) race. Some bystander, meaning well, said something along the lines of 'well it's a shame you came last, but you tried your best.' My boy (about 7 at the time) said, 'no I came first in the backwards race.' He isn't one to harbour a negative thought and is now a well respected (albiet somewhat unique) Correctional Officer. I get nothing but good reports about him.
