I had an opportunity this passed week to take my Presidio out for a short spot and stalk pig hunt and took this small one with a 65 yard running shot:

I crept up on a small group and got within iron sight range when they busted me and they took off at a quick trot.
This one was the tail end Charlie of the group and when I swung the rifle on him to shoot I had the lead a little short and sent a 350 grain flat point through his hips, breaking them both.
The load I used was a 350 grain flat point on top of 42.5 grains of H4198 for a velocity of 1450 fps.
The impact of the round knocked him down spun him 90 degrees and he took off on his front legs away from me and I caught him with another round right behind the ribs (aiming for the off side shoulder) and that nailed the coffin shut for good.
The hunt with the Presidio was far too short and would have liked to have stayed in the field in search a a bigger animal but time was short and I had to get back home.
If I get the opportunity to go out again I%u2019ll take the Presidio along for anothe try and see how she spies on something a little larger.

The area I hunt is 30 miles west of Abilene near Sweatwater Texas.
A small hunting outfit has about 1000 acres with pigs and Texas Dall rams available to hunt at (what I consider) very reasonable rates for Texas.

Good country around there , have hunted a little in Coke and Sterling Co. ground looks a lot like that . Hope you get another chance at more of them .,,,,DT

Sure brings back memories of over half-century ago, when I took some hawgs in Tennessee. One with a .30-6 Tanker Garand (1 shot...didn't need the other four in the magazine) at about 10 yds. The other two with a M1886 in .33 WCF. These were European wild boar.

Always wanted to hunt those European Boar in Tennessee . Just cant justify it now that the Wild Hog population has exploded here . An 06 and a .33WCF will get it done with just about anything on the planet . ATCDoctor what bullet did you use ? ,,,DT

I used a very hard 350 grain Wide Nosed Flat Point with a gas check sized .513.

It is quite accurate in both my 50/95’s using stiff charges of H4198.

Crimped to the crimp groove the COAL is perfect for the 1876.
Here’s a loaded round next a 45/70 with a 405 grain Hi Tek coated bullet.

That's very impressive shooting . A big flat meplat will deliver a lot of energy to the animal . I have shot a few deer and hog with the 50-95 some with the .510 , 300 Grn. Flat nose Bitterroot bullet and the same brand and shape in 350 grn. also using Bp. That load has performed very well on game , kills fast with very little meat damage . The old saying (You Can Eat Up To The Hole) . Lately I have been using a bullet cast from a Winchester mould it drops @ .513 and 330 Gr. with wheel weights . The groove in my rifle is .510 . I am surprised that I have not had lead problems . But never shoot a lot of shots at once . Thanks for sharing your load and pictures .,,,DT
