Model 1865 trigger plate screws

My trigger plate has 3 screws, 2 of which are wood screws.
 The 3rd screw just in front of the trigger is a machine screw that goes in the receiver. Is that screw just to center the plate or is it supposed to attach the plate to the receiver? Thanks.

That goes in to the receiver.  Helps tighten up the stock/receiver fit.  Also, with the model 1865, it hold the stabler cutoff. My 1865 was missing that screw and the stabler cut off.  The screw that was supposed to fit, did not.  I ended up using a 26 pitch screw from a trapdoor.
