Found this beautiful rifle, NIB, 1998 manufacture. Owner bought it and never used it. Got it to the range and it has a problem, Goes into battery hard. Really hard. On careful inspection the face of the bolt has three nibs. The head of the case fits inside these nibs when fully in battery. The 44-40 case head is .011 larger than 44 magnum, which is what bolt they used in these.
If you pull the bolt out the case fits tight but perfect. Placed in the receiver it must be ever so slightly off as one of the nibs hits the case head and won't allow it to go completely into battery. You can see where it imprints on the rim.
Anyone else hear of this or run into this situation?
Many thanks, Yakima Red
