Hi everyone,
Is there a way to identify an 1860 carbine barrel band? I am missing one on my carbine and need to find one. Also looking for info on the rear stock sling swivel.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

The bottom band for a rifle is interchangeable with the carbine band. Dixie has them, part number SH0223. S&S Firearms lists the carbine band separately, SP188. I think the difference is that the carbines usually have the U marking to indicate which side is up and the rifles don't. Also, check to see if you need a band spring. It should be in the bottom of the stock a few inches back from the tip.

The swivel is going to be tough. S&S has reproductions listed, but they are out of stock. They do have original bases if that would help.

If you are buying for the carbine in the pictures, that forestock has been thinned down. A band may not fit.

yes it is indeed for the one in the pictures, thank you for the help, I've seen a few on ebay but were either unknown  make or were listed for a rifle. I didn't know the forend had been thinned, this is the first spencer i've ever seen in person so I don't have an eye for those things yet.

We have all learned that same way. Depending on how much it's been thinned a band might still fit. Probably worth picking up a band to see.

S&S lists a replacement forestock that requires final fitting, but they are out of them. Might be worth calling to see when they think more might be available.

You might also try calling Ed Kneisley in York Pa. I use to have his card but can't find it at the moment. Hopefully someone will put his contact info up. He has zero internet presence so you have to call, but he has a lot of antique military arms parts.

If you are anywhere near Winchester, Va. in October, go to the N-SSA national shoot. Chances are there will be somebody there selling a stock.

Welcome to the exciting world of Spencers!

I will have to look in to attending that shoot in VA, probably not this year but the kids will be a little older next year and the wife and I want to visit there sometime. I've not heard of it before, is the event family friendly or not really something for them?

I'll pick up a band on ebay and will keep an eye out for a replacement forend. I appreciate the help!

The North-South Skirmish Assn. holds two national meets a year just NW of Winchester of Rt. 522. Middle of May and first week of Oct. If it was shot in the war, we shoot it, from revolvers up to field artillery. It's very family friendly and there are quite a few sutlers/vendors selling all kinds of goodies. Check www.n-ssa.org

You will meet several of the denizens of this BB there. Hope to meet you in person there at some point.

I just saw the video on the website, I know what I'll be saving up vacation time for.
