Title: Cimarron Spencer *** Photos Added ***
Post by: Caleb Hobbs on August 20, 2008, 09:46:14 PM
I'm full of questions tonight, and I'm hoping someone here might have some answers. I saw a Cimarron Spencer rifle on Gunbroker a while back that did not have the saddle ring. I like the rifle, and would really like to have one without that ring. Is this something new from Armi Sport? Is Taylor's offering a Spencer rifle without the ring on the left side?

Also, I've seen a couple of original rifles -- there's one on Gunbroker now -- that does have the saddle ring. How did that happen? I was under the impression from these pages that no Spencer rifle was ever produced with the ring. Was this an after market modification, or were a few made with the ring?

All answers will be appreciated. Thanks.

Caleb,

Your questions regarding the Spencer and its saddle ring and bar have been discussed on SSS several times.  I have included the past discussion links on this topic for your reading enjoyment ;D ;D

I received a new spencer rifle(three band) from cimarron about 2 weeks ago. It does not have the saddle ring and bar.

red leg and R-71: Thanks for your feedback on the new Armi Sport rifles. That ring always bothered me, and never looked right on a long gun.

Two-Flints: Thanks for the links.

For those with the new rifle w/o saddle ring, do these rifles still have the carbine action? I called Cimarron & Chris said that the NEW Spencer rifles are correct with NO saddle ring carbine plate and it is smooth, i.e., historically correct.  :o :D  I may have to get one then.  :)

The one I saw on Gunbroker had NO plate and looked really sweet. I'm thinking the same thing, it's time to start saving up for a rifle.

Hey Fox Creek Kid,

Here are the photos of the Cimarron Spencer Rifle you requested - with no bar and ring on the "new" Spencers coming from Armi Sport.  Chris from Cimarron sent them to me after I requested them.
