Nasty one just missed us, wife's antibiotics are making her weird, common side affect, calling Dr after my appointment in the morning.  While I was making supper she went to Scotland and seen the Loc Ness Monster.  ::)

I took some combination of cold meds once and thought I could float ....
reasoned I could rise up and just horizonal out and hover about 4 feet above the floor....

as it turned out both the floor and the dresser I hit with my head , begged to differ.

Are you still in drought conditions there?

Thanks for the July won coffee

Major S- I am glad ya’ll are getting back out to the range.

Glen Major2 I have had my share of the same issues while on antibiotics. I also lost a slew of weight while on them.

We had had about 10 days now of Tropical type weather. Heavy rains and thunderstorms after the heat gets on. Then some late evening storms as well.

Today I receive a job offer alert
seems the John D Archbold Hospital needs a Physician Gastroenterologist / Gastroenterology Opportunity Exceptive.   ???

Thanks for the coffee...
late as usual. not surprising when you are on Singappore time...
not much getting done here beyond household duties.

Regarding on projects
- I am nibbling back the barrel on my Sargent Shultz Colt a leeeeetle bit at a time until I  like the look.
- Taylors Came Through with my backorder! I am now the proud possesor of THREE unfinished Pietta Thunderererer Backstraps!

The weather in the Great Southwest turned dry and smokey, from the smoke drifting from the AZ fires :(
We are praying for more rain. Hopefully the Pueblos can invoke the appropriate dance, without causing floods.

Del- take care of yourself & your missus ( and the little brown dog) I still need you to teach us more cooking!

Major- yes there are some over-the counter decoctions that just dont mix well.

For all you reminicising abou t remembering Boot Camp - Thank You for your service
It is interesting, but at this particular time (more so than ever) it seems everyone, regardless of age, is reflecting on
times past.

Stay safe on this coming Independance Day - don't start any wildfires, blow off important bits, or scare Little Brown Critters.

You could do the job because 9 out of 10 Gastroenterologists are idiots, or at least most of them I've dealt with.

Had to take Rita to ER this morning, Hallucinations were just to weird, allergic to the one antibiotic.   She was telling Riley to get of the nightstand and insisting he was on it even though he was in Lexie's room.   She called Dr and never mentioned the real problem, I called from the bedroom and they called her back and told her to come to the ER.   May be a long couple days.

Would you listen to what the patient told you, can you read previous records about a reoccurring problem?

In the Midst of this Historic Outbreak, The White Coated Gentlepersons are so overwhelmed at this point that they just
jump to obvious conclusions and do not believe they have the time to actually read the file .  We JUST had that experience
when we told them FOUR TIMES to send an Rx eclectically to pharmacy xyz and they sent it THREE TIMES to pharmacy abc... took ten days
to get the thing. I could have hiked down the mountain to the Dr's and walked it over to the store faster.

They said it would wear of quickly, much better now.

Only dealt with one nerve Dr, not impressed,

My gastro Dr hate goes back about 50 years and almost every encounter reinforces it.

Changed GP in January ain't really had one for a while, revolving door at the clinic.   Nurse at the rehab hospital recommended him when I told her my wants.   Laid out the whole gastro Dr thing to him first visit, he agrees, if we know the problem is adhesions there is no need for a gastro Dr to torture me putting stuff in the lower and upper holes and taking X-Rays that will show nothing, go straight to the surgeon and fix it, after 7 times I know exactly what is going on and no sense taking a simple thing and dragging it out, it will not happen again.

Lexie went to visit her Aunt in Sioux Falls, Riley knew something was up and now he's pouting.   We're going to go out and watch the neighbors fireworks in a bit.

Told the niece that lives about a mile away to stop by and check on us once in a while.   Lexie said she would call every night and check on us.  Mom called a bit ago and checked to see if we were alright she heard an ambulance call on the scanner but it was a block away.  Getting old sucks.

Wife and I had movie night last night. We've been excited to view "Hamilton" ever since it was announced on Disney+.
It was fabulous, - the talent represented . . . I could not imagine the sheer energy that cast would have to muster for every performance.

It was a very appropriate expression for this Fourth of July holiday.

Meant to say watching Rambo today

Witch had the largest Claymore explosion ever ....

Rambo 3   I had been hired to work on this film and did early pre-production , but delays  pushed the location shoot to January 1988.
It had been planned to shoot in Jan- Feb 1987, in Arizona.

I decided to opt out because I was getting married Jan 15, 1988 , when I told Bill Kenney ( production designer ) my plans.
He said , " Cool  next time then " ....

The next time was "Oscar"
He had already completed pre-production on the west coast. I went to see Bill on location at Universal Studios, Florida.
He told me Art Dept. positions were filled except for a few set dressers & a swing gang leader to be hired locally.
I asked about the swing lead .  Bill said " I was way to valuable to tote furniture around "
I said " I had no qualms ,  I needed the work "

"He'd find me something " he said... I left kinda deflated , figured I screwed the pooch leaving Rambo early on....

True to his word , I got the call , " Rigging Grip "  That is a guaranteed credited position and assured I'd be on the show.
I had a crew of 8 men several from LA , turned out to be a very sweet gig !

Thanks for the coffee and the stroll down memory lane  :)

Mrs Marvel & I liked them both - the John Wayne version for entertainment and the new one for being far more true to the book & era.

If they had named the new one something else, I expect they would not have gotten the "upset"

I concurr - but I think they deliberately managed Campbells portrayal as a overblown self-important type... I have to check the book and see if that was the intent there.

oops - need more coffee - yup I agree the singing campbell was not a great choice opposite the Duke....
but Damon made a great overblown self-important type true to the book...

I bought a John Deere this time.

My Dear Major -
I am in the market for a small tractor. i would dearly love the 40hp diesel Kabota with a front loader, but cannot justify it cost for 2.01 acres and the minimum use it would get.
I am looking for the "best bang per buck" for a small high-desert property that only needs mowing perhaps 2 or 3 times a year- over the septic drain field and to whack
down the tumbleweedy things along the front road ditch, and to haul stuff, rocks and dirt up and down the little hill, and hang either a scraper or bucket for leveling and grooming
dirt walking paths and laying and grooming gravel.

if using a yard tractor to scrape a trail would be too harsh on it, I could rent a bobcat (major overkill) and have it done in one pass...

John Deere isn't getting the  reviews like in the old days- most seem to last 5 or 7 years instead of the older models running 15 or 20 years! Obviously nothing lasts like it used to...

Soooo .... what does the collective hive mind recommend?

Thanks, Major!
the interweb sites suggest JD or CC may last the longest.. it seems like 500 hours is all you can expect out of them!
and that is with the so-called regularly scheduled manufacturor maintenance.

WTH is with that? change the oil & plugs? service the carb? replace any belts?

I think I need to steer clear of the low end JD, they seem to break belts
and the hydraulic drive systems look like they are worth the little extra purchase price.

And the price is the same on a JD whether I go to Lowes, Home Depot, or the dealer right down the street.
So I will try to watch for a Big Box sale

Professor from previous experiance- nothing runs like a deere. When they are running.  Yet you can’t beat the reliability of Kubota. For your acreage would you really need 40 hp?

Major2 you could have not reviewed True Grit better. Delmonico was right many hated the remake before even reviewing it. Same with remake of the Alamo. Which again I enjoyed both but the remake was better.

Greetings all.

Rather subdued Independence Day here. The governor prohibited a parade, so instead we had a “protest” that included classic cars, fire trucks, mules, bagpipes and the local VFW color Guard.  The gov also prohibited a firework show, so the fire and sheriff’s departments made sure to block off Main Street so nobody could gather for the show, and dutifully set off a bunch of fireworks from various places around town to keep them out of the wrong hands.  Some local citizens volunteered to help, which they gladly accepted.

This day after has also been rather calm, the highlight being the baking of a sourdough loaf. Once it gets below 90 I’m going to take the dog for a walk.

Not sure how to post a video here, made a short on the prove a point, a steak, sitting in it's juice, cut with a fork and then shown when cut that it is well done.   People say that you can't cook a steak beyond medium rare and not ruin it, I tell them they might not be able to but some of us can.  An old secret from the 19th Century, duplicated the famous Delmonico Steak from the old Delmonico's in New York, most people say it's just a strip loin, it is a strip loin aka New York stip but it still needs the tender loving care of a skilled and knowledgeable cook and I perfected it tonight.  wife's was between medium rare and medium, her prefered and she didn't bother putting her teeth in. ;D

Professor, Look at the Troy-Bilt lawn tractors, I bought mine back in 2012 and have only needed to replace a couple headlight bulbs, the oil and filter. That's been the only maintenance I had to do. I did have to replace the mower blades, but that was because I hit a ground rod on one side and a rock that was covered with tall grass on the other side. I replaced them with mulching blades. It never fails to start and at the end of the season I drain the gas and run it dry then remove the battery and put it on a batter tender in my garage.I was so impressed with the quality that I bought a gas powered Trimmer and S**wblower made by Troy-Bilt and they have been as good as the lawn tractor.

Morning Coffee is  ready

We got outside before rain yesterday and tried out our shooting lane. The  ground is a little un even for a table as planned. We made do though.  Shot my Ruger MkIV Sp101 and my Model 10. Suzanne Shot her Sigs 380 and 9mm. It has been awhile but was fun.  She wants to cut a little more brush back to the backstop.

Rain came as predicted. Normally out of west or south west. The past 48 hours have been out of south -south east.

A group of protesters blocked US 17-92 - 441 the main drag through St. Cloud....
Tying up traffic for about 2 hours on Saturday.
It heated up when Locals got out of their cars and confronted, the (as it turned out all) protesters that were from out of town.
St Cloud Police broke it up.

It was a total outside agitated " Black Lives Matter " protest , local news were late to the scene , as it fell apart before they could

Good morning thanks for the coffee...I made toast ...thinking BLT sandwich for noon

We had a Black on black stabbing of a 9 year old girl , the girl will recover .. (1st. report said 6 year old girl)
the purp was apprehended then shot while while struggling free and ran , he died...
Now ! ...family says he was the wrong suspect ....  ::)   and raising hell !

No riots but there were heated gatherings in front of the Police Dept. demanding justice.
It has died off some , as the Girl pointed out Hodge was the guy . There is still agitation going on locally over it though.

Edit:
The man killed, 21-year-old Jah’Sean Hodge, has been described by the victim’s family as the child’s uncle.
The victim's mother provided this statement in a press release sent out by the St. Cloud Police Department: "We finally got answers and I have a lot to accept, but I just want to say the St. Cloud Police Department did their job. Let's just not make this any worse than it is," she said.

No drenching here. When the water finally shut off here, about 3-4 weeks ago, it SHUT OFF. Like it usually does. Had one somewhat wet day, July 4, again what it usually does. And a couple of "pop up" showers that barely settle the dust. Got to go move the sprinkler hose in the garden in a minute.

That would be north Florida including the panhandle & north Central....
Less so in my area though we have had some drought in March & April .
I'm not aware of restrictions in my county (Osceola )
That was not the case when Wildfires ravaged Florida 20 years ago, burning half a million acres.
Some dangerously close by, one wooded 5 acre lot just within 400 feet away.

It is over on the Gulf Coast about 70 miles North of Tampa ,and yes they are dry.

The daily rain storms in Florida are confluence of sea breezes over the central Florida I-4 corridor
I is drawn away from the coasts, unless it is Tropical in nature , then they get nailed

Yes thank you both....  stayed dry, except for humidity yesterday  35% chance of rain today.

Made BBQ ribs in the crock pot , I just was not into heating up the smoker ...

Not bad at all

in a 3 quart Crock pot ...
1/4 cup of Apple cyder vinegar
3/4 cup of Apple juice
add a bed of  3 Valdivia onions sliced thick

I use an Applewood rub & Garlic salt on the meat.

Cook on low for 4 1/2 hours ,  drain off fluid ( onions will add a lot as they cook down )

Top with your favorite BBQ Sause, I like Sweet Baby Ray's Hickory Smoke
leave on warm till serving ( about 1 hour or less )

Wife bought a new Singer last summer when my old Brother broke beyond repair, wish i knew a Singer rep, I wouldn't even bother greasing it.   Got a 50 some year old one downstairs i bought for $10, need to revive it, wifes Singer 221 is to light for this heavy stuff.     Need to get the treadle working again, my old Brother would sew about anything and cost far less.

I remember going to see it a the Coral Theater in Coral Gables , Fla.
Funny I don't remember the show itself,  just the title and where I went to see it 61 years ago  ???

Tried to burn the kitchen down this morning. I cleaned up my big skillet and rubbed with oil. And then set on burner to heat a little bit. Got distracted till I realized the house was filling with smoke.  All better now. My mind is going I swear it is.

Let it go till it quits smoking and you've got a good proper reseasoning on it.  I use Martha Stewart's video on seasoning as an example of how to do it wrong, woman is still lying. ;D ;)

Afternoon all.

Supposed to be 106 here today, which makes everything fun. No plans for outdoor activities at the moment though.

My fiancé is in the process of handing a horse over to another trainer right now. Usually she goes down T-Th-S to train a horse and rider, but since we’ll be leaving soon, she’s having to give them to another trainer in the area. Today is their first day at the new place, and then they’ll alternate weeks until we leave.

Ain't hurt, clean it up good with 220 wet and dry, red spot is like mill scale.   Wipe a very thin coat of your favorite edible oil/fat on it and put it in the oven at 500-550 till it quits smoking.

Corned beef with sharp cheddar and honey mustard with horseradish for supper.  Had a low BP problem earlier, did some electrolytes and other liquid, ok now, recommended amount is not enough, but likely because I keep the sodium low.

RE: bent barrel....

ummmm.
no.
the bend of the radius must be veeeeeerrrrrry gradual.
there was a lot of research attempting to do this back around WW2. The only "slightly" succesful one was a German MP44 in 9mm and the raidus
of the bend was nearly a foot, to shoot around corners.  They figured out that tossing a grenade around the corner worked much better at
clearing the street.

Should work ok, as long as you deep fry it in bacon grease.

The sewing machine I use for my GAF uniforms is an older Simplicity, Someone gave it to us when I was still with the first wife and she didn't take it with her when she went. Started out with a new singer from Wal Mart, was ok when it worked, but inexperienced me did something to it, it's locked up tight as a drum. The Simplicity's like a tank compared to the Wally World Singer. I do miss the button hole attachment it had, though.

Looks to be in great condition
I need to take it out and read the Seral number and date it... I betting 1952-53
I know my Sister had had it nearly 70 years, God bless her sole...

I don't know if it works, but it might be fun to learn to use it.

M-2, is it one of the black cast iron ones with the gold pin stripes? My Mom had one of those, went to my sister. The thing weighed a ton! Probably about the same age as the one you have.

Yes it is Black with gold scrolling ...it is smaller than my Moms which was built into a rounded top wood case .
This one is in a square black leatherette case and you lift it out , then a feed shelf fold out to use.
If I had to guess it weigh about 15 Lbs.

I took it out to date the S# AH669022

Update : turns out it falls into    AH  640321 - 670320   - 30,000 made    June 18th   1948  pretty cool

so it 72 years old... its in good condition ,  but the cord & foot peddle wiring has decomposed and it needs rewiring.

Not sure what I'll do may get it rewired ( correct type ) or get it appraised and pass it on... :-\

Winter is going to be spent working on sewing machines, have a round top case Singer with deluxe buttonholer, need to set up, got a 50's vintage Singer to get set up, going to be my machine.  Need to get the motor lube for the Singer 221, Later K version, the best of the best and get it cleaned and lubed, eventually we'll have our own sewing rooms and the 221 will be in the closet in case we set up quick on the dining room table.

I've contacted steve@bobbindoctor.com, seems he is the go to guy on the vintage sewing boards.

I am  not sure how special the oil is. Any "lightweight fine machinery" oil ought to work great. I have been substituing the cheapest WallyWorld Baby oil
for "fine machine oil" for years with no ill effects ... yet...   Baby Oil is is very very light weight mineral oil, penetrates well, does not gum up, and does not stink...

RE Footpedals - First one needs to determine whether it is electric or electronic, and what kind, rheostat, slider & coil, carbon pile, etc.

https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6ynTD0Ich9Y/WCVA6uwQjVI/AAAAAAAAGIA/CpsH7stuAOsv6-B9ia7J-JZSR8i4V8ZNACLcB/s1600/electric%2Bcontrol%2Bvs%2Belectronic%2Bcontrol.png

If you have a basic Multimeter  ( aka Volt - Ohm Meter  - every adult should have at least one cheapie! Should be part of a basic household toolkit ) you can troubleshoot a lot of simple stuff yourself.

Disconnect  the foot pedal and you use the "ohm" setting to see if it still works. The old ones are nothing more than a variable wire-wound rehostat
and  It is the usual culprit, the wire inside broke or the slider is not making contact. easy fix good to go!.

Thanks Prof.
I hope to use the original button pedal style shown here. Tomorrow I'll open up the pedal and check it for wear or broken coils if all is well,
I'll call Monday and order the cable kit @ $14.95 , its the plan if the OEM rheostat still functions.

I familiar with wide pedal style , have one for my Dermal ...I would like to leave it as vintage as it is....

One of the cool factors is it is the same year of manufacture as...well ....ME !  :)

Can't locate my meter ... it was a Pro Lafayette Multi-Meter ...and vintage itself I used it in Collage.
I believe it was lost in my Barn Fire in 2012.

This is the tin of Singer Oil , I don't recall where I found it. but with $0.30 price it has to be 50's or 60's
it is about half full....

I'm still cleaning the deck , as some of the goo from the decomposed cord was globed on it , its coming off though.
Oiling , following the book is on going too...

I found 3 or 4  Simplicity & McCall's dress patterns in the case,  they have been used, the envelope photos appear to be 60's styles.
I would be happy to past these on , if any ladies are pattern collector's

Looking, at first I must have had the older manual, mine has a sealed bearing motor but I may have the belt to tight, was not feeling good the day I worked on it.  Going to do a complete cleaning and lube later this week.  New Singer continues to work,

Good morning Gents ...thanks Roo...

Probably says so long to Keurig...My machine quit a wile back , and was using my daughters ( stored here ) she's claimed it once more ,so its to be history in few days.

I looked at the prices  ::)  decided to get a Mr. Coffee at 1/3 the cost , and the upside I can set it to brew the night before.

Mr. Coffee is not quite as convenient or millennial as the Keurig ...but what the hey !

Same old weather pattern here ....heat born thunder storms Déjà vu

Good morning all.

We have some stuff in fire in the area, though nothing threatening my family.  I was supposed to go down to the city today for horse things, but the future Mrs. TK isn’t feeling well, so we stayed here.  I took the dog for a walk while it was still cool and stumbled across a Mountain Lion. We parted ways as uneasy acquaintances and will hopefully not meet again.

Which one is that? Was it BP or smokeless?
Rifle loads for the non-long range stages are limited to 1500 fps. Long range stage can be full power since the targets are AR 500.

Shooting both rifle and pistol would be one of the skirmish stages. BP single shots can be pretty much full power, but smokeless loads are limited as Slim said. 12-13 grains of Trailboss and a cast bullet are loader than a 22, but not by a lot.

My first homegrown tomato is sitting on the kitchen windowsill-still another day or 2 to be fully ripe.

However , seems my friend had clean out his Garage ( having had a new door installed this last week )

Still above the dirt, just my rather quite self.  I check the board at least once or twice a day if I can.

Not much is happening here in Reno.  I can give you a current weather check (Highs in the mid to upper nineties, light winds picking up to 15 MPH about 18:00, chance of rain and clouds nada).  Repeat that for at least the next 10 days.

I too am worried about El Peludo!  He is one of the Founding Fathers of our club here in Reno.  That was back in '94 or so.
I'm going to see if I can track him down.

Okay

Tracked him down and he is still face up.  He's just slowin' down a bit.  Sounds like he is still doin' good, and had a short talk about shooting, guns, and all that stuff.

Thanks for the coffee...
having turkeyburger sandwiches for breaklunch lately, actually quite tasty!

we have beenhaving lovely Monsoon weather here in the great Southwest this entire last week, and it is continuing, thank God.

have to clean up a sink full of dishes, literally 10 loads of laundry, trap a packrat, check on the mousy traps, find & concrete over
the mousy/packrat entrance into the crawlspace, get new tires for Mrs Marvel 30 y.o. subaru legacy, chase down Rx's and the insurance co.
clean out the L.R. , refinish and install 4 sets of bookshelves, and get the 8kw genset LP conversion kit installed....
oh, and get the snow blower prepped & tuned...

I don't do the Facebook, Twitter  etcetera, etcetera, etcetera  media ...  ???

May be missing out, but I'm just not into it

Beginning August 4th, masks are mandated for Omaha. Not surprised, - we have to get those numbers down.

Retraction. News flash just now said Omaha Health Director declined to enact a mandatory mask decision.

Hey John, it won't be till about the end of the year, probably November, but it is looking like Rita is going to get her knees done finally and will be at UNMC, she will probably have to stay the night, would you and the Mrs put up with me overnight?  I don't like to drive at night on busy highways anymore.   Will know more September 15th when we go talk to the surgeon.

Morning all.

Supposed to be another one over 100 today. We’re planning on heading out to the river for some shade later on.

A friend of mine from Billings is in town with his helicopter fighting some of these overgrown marshmallow roasting fires we have in the mountains, so I’ll probably run down there and say howdy at some point.  Might have to grab a few dozen donuts from down at the local bakery while I’m at it.

So far predicted tracking has it off shore as Cat. 1

The good news is the NE leading edge is the most intense in a Northern Hemisphere Tropical Cyclone  ( Hurricane or TS )

So we may be spared the worst of it . The further east it tracks will be the saving Grace.

WE will do what we always do, we have supplies , gas tanks full , and hunker down ....
