Scout's Dispatch and Report
« on: October 21, 2011, 12:34:52 AM »
To the Modreators and GAF command;

I've taken the liberty of putting together a bit of a newsletter.  It is just a simple double sided page that outlines the basics of the GAF shooting classes and skirmish format and reprints part of a couple of brief after action reports. I am offering this here first for your approval and permission to use this as a recruiting tool and to encourage greater participation by GAF members.  If so approved,  I give my blessing for the reprinting and distribution of this document as you see fit.

This is really good and might be a good tool for recruiting. I think a few more people might see it if it is in the main Barracks page so I'm going to move it there and stickie it.

Exalant idea sir.  Also the Comminsarry Dept will make sure he gets an extra helping of dessert in his rations at the soonest possible time.

Thank you for the approval.  I do want to include more division and department reports in the next one but I also want to keep it simple and probably just to one double-side page for now.  This first one I wanted to get a general overview in with the shooting classes and skirmish format.  I don't plan on including who placed where at the competiions,  as that can get very space consuming and those who win know they won.  I like the field report style for this,  but have to shorten it sometimes.
I may do a vol. zero with some of the older reports.  I want to have another one reeady by the end of the year with the Grand muster report and some others.

The bad thing is we have a small enough crowd at Jerry's to do pie, but it's to hot out there to get the crust to work. ::)

I hope that you all ho ahead and print off copies of this for the Grand muster this year(I won't be able to be there in person).  and also distribute them to  you own groups.  I don't know if a mailing to all GAF membrs would be feasable but would be nice.  I just don't know if CAScity and the GAF sites reach many of the GAF membership.

Ok, I am working on another dispatch and reort but this is Volume zero.  A prequel to the vol I no 1.
I started reading some old post and wet way back in the barraks to thelast page.  Learned quit a bit about how far GAF has come.
the BArraks didn't go al the way back to the baginging though.   It appears the first Muster was in 2004 and wasn't called the "Grand" muster untill later.  It also seems that ther have been attempts all along to work with NCOWS and SASS but with no real success above the local level.  I see that the GAF has definetly grown into it's own uniqie organization.

Can anyone tell me how when and where the GAF started? where are the roots?  I thought it might make a good addition to the newsletters I am doing.

US Scout and Captain Barrett would be the guys to talk to about the very beginning. They were there. Capt. Barrett is GAF #2 and Scout is GAF #3. It was started in January 2003. As I understand it, at the time it was started the GAF was a bunch of SASS shooters who liked to shoot in Victorian Era military uniforms. The idea was to discuss things online with no intention of it ever leaving the virtual world and migrating to the real world. I joined in May of the same year. Col. Cheyenne Logan was the Dept. of the Missouri Commander back then. He recrruited me to be his Chief of Staff. By the Fall of the 2003 we had started the postal matches.  Back then all our business was done on the Frontier Spot forum. We came to CAS City when the Frontier Spot became too unstable with crashes and such. In about 2006 several of the original leadership had become inactive and since we had become a real world presence General Scout didn't want to see the GAF just go away. When he assumed command I was appointed Col. of the Dept. of the Missouri. As you said the frist Grand Muster wasn't called that and was in 2004 I wasn't able to attend that one. Back then the Iron Trooper was the overall fastest shooter and all shooting was done with standard CAS guns. It wasn't until 2007 that the Iron Trooper became just the name for the medal awarded to the Brigade Champion who placed highest in both shooting and uniform competitions. 2007 was also the first year that the Battle Rifles were used in more than just an expiremental form for competition. I think there were about 4 or 5 of us that used them that year. Prior to that just Rattlesnake Jack and Drydock had used them in competition. The Grand muster has been held at Garnett KS, Iowa Falls IA, Ord NE, Lockhart TX and will go back to Garnett next week.

Great info Col.  I think I have enough now to fill the space left and give a brief timeline.  We can always expand the story in a later issue.  I hope this works out well.  I am trying to give credit where due when plagarizing others writings.  If you remember, my brother is the writer in our family,not me, but I can copy and paste pretty well! ;)

General,  I tink I would like to hold off on any change of asingment right now.  I am just recently in the "chief of Scouts" post here in the Dept of the Platte and hope to promote GAF through this position into a more active presence in this area.  If we can find a spot wiht side matches at a couple of clubs or a stand alone event, then I feel I could move on.  I hope to talk with our Dept command more about this in the comming weeks and see what thier views are.

I do apprieciate all  the support.
