Title: The Forum has been restored!
Post by: Marshal Halloway on March 24, 2019, 01:45:22 PM

Hey folks!

A couple of weeks ago, we experienced a major problem when switching to a new server and upgrading the forum. Thanks to backups and outside help, we were able to restore it.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

Still some work to be done to clean it up and we might experience some errors.

Please report of any finding on this thread.

Thanks Marshall for all your hard work!

\my first order of business is to download all my contact data to my local machine , copy, archive , back it up, and print out hardcopy to be bound in a ledger LOL.

Thanks so much, I was pining away for lack of communicating with all the folks here on CAS City!

I thank you as well for the work that you put into this. When the site is down, I get confused. What am I supposed to DO all day?

At last, and thank you. When I clicked on I thought I'd gotten The Open Range, with their color scheme and everything. They're right next to each other in my favorites. I did like the color scheme of the old CAS City though.

Glad to see we're back.

The forum theme, color etc.... is still a work in progress.

We decided to get the forum back as quickly as we could with the default layout.

Next step is to make the forum secure with SSL and then we start working on the blog section and final layout.

Thanks from south-central Ne Mexico, Marshall. So relieved to see it back up and running with new and improved software. Gave me a pretty good scare!

Just thought that I?d mention that my apostrophe key on my iPad becomes a question mark when ever I use it here. Didn?t do it before. And doesn?t do it anywhere else. Also there were some weird things at the beginning and end of my There is no horse comment that I went to my psge and deleted but I see the same on other members posts. Otherwise the new and improved forum looks good. Like the new Marlin forum too. Doesn?t do it when I type it but when I hit post or save the apostrophes change.

There used to be a way to look at past posts for a profile.  I understand there will probably no way to recover the old  posts, but was wondering if there would be a way to back check posts since the recovery.  Great job on having the data you did and the speed with which you put it all back together!

Ross,

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "look at past posts". I would claim that all forum posts since 2004 are still here. Latest stats show 614696 Posts in 48084 Topics by 10687 Members. If you can give me an example, I can do some checking for you.

On the member profile page there was an option to see ( think it was "Latest Posts") from member.  If this isn't available in this format I'm fine.  I just used to use it to check up on my Alzheimer's  ::) to see if I had already posted something on a topic.

Just found what I looking for (sorta).  If I click on a member other than myself it shows under the "Summary Profile" as "Show Posts".  If I bring up my own profile I can't find that option.

In a member's profile page, you should be able to click on "Show Posts".

The problem is when I select my own profile there is no "Show Posts" option.

Ross, you are correct. Looks like regular members cannot open their own summary page. I have reported this so hopefully we can get this fixed soon.

Ross, we may have solved the problem. It was a permission issue. Try again to see if you can see your profile summary with "Show Posts" on the left hand side of the page.

Nope.  When I click on my icon in a post it give me the Edit Profile page, instead of the Summary page.  I do get the Summary page when I click on any other icon.  I even logged out and back in just the make sure I picked up the new permissions.

Mine also. Plus my alias is not colored for being a moderator.

As much as I think the site has improved, I still have the same nagging issue. When I get here, the text is too small. No problem, just enlarge the view, right? Well, most of the headings blow up, but the rest of the text is still too small. I used to know how to fix that, back before I moved to the woods and became Grizzly Adams. CSS and HTML version whatever it is now can get funky real fast

We're still looking at the problem with getting the personal profile summary page restored.

As far as the text size, I have added this to the list for the next update. Can't promise anything, but if there is way to increase the text size without breaking the layout, we will.

Does anyone know if I can buy a Spencer cuttoff to install on a modern Spencer carbine other than the Stabler cuttoff?
Title: Re: The Forum has been restored! but still having difficulties?

First: I am using Windows XP Pro Home 32 bit Software on a Pentium Proccessor based Computer form about 2005 to view the Formu.

My eyesight is 'less than it was' and I am having difficulty reading the texts which appear as dark gray type fort on light gray Background.

Is there any way you might be able to make the type font darker, like true Black, on the Gray or Tan backgrounds currently in vogue?

I am currently viewing the forum pages at 120% enlarged size which helps with the small size type but not the contrast between type and background.

Chev. William,

As of now we don't have the option of changing the layout without a template upgrade. I have added your request to the list for the next upgrade, so we'll see what the dev team can do.
