The Barracks / Re: Hunter Supply bullets

I don't have a hugh supply of standard rifle primers. I'd really like to save those for 45-70 BP rounds. I do have a brick of magnum primers. Anyone have any pros or cons on using these?
I do the reverse. I use Federal 215 Magnums in my BP 45-70.

Dean (umc1984),

Lots of Spencer conversions to Sporting Rifle for buffalo hunting.  One link for you:

or this one:

Do a search using "Gemmer Spencer" or "Buffalo Spencer" for more links.

Greetings My Dear Monsieur Burrows

Firstly you will probably want this in the STORM  area rather than the Leather shop  ;D ;D ;D  but no worries, we will work it out

Second, is this a C&B or Cartridge open top?

Third, is it Uberti?

This exact problem is common in Uberti's and is the result of a "too short" arbor.

the simplest fix is to clean out the arbor hole extremely well and  a #10 spilkt washer dropped down the hole.
once this is in the STORM forum Coffin or Goon or Larsen or whatsisname will probably be all over this on your behalf.

Can you tell we are a helpfull bunch?

The Leather Shop / Open Top Problem

Having an issue with an older 71/72 Open Top revolver. I’m guessing it’s a wedge problem. The original wedge is too loose. Put a different one in and it binds down in some places. One or two times the hammer will cock easy and then it will be nearly impossible to cock with one hand.

Any ideas on what I can do to fix the issue ?

It’s a well used gun but a beauty that I don’t want to give up on.

If I can’t get it, who’s a good smith I can see about fixing it?

The Powder Room - CAS reloading / Re: 38 Long Colt Ballon head cases

somewhere on the shelf is most of a cigar box full of balloon head .45 Colt cases. I can't do much with them because they do not have the extractor groove like new cases do. They are almost rimless and unless I want to dig out the Ideal tong tool they will stay in the box.

Same here, except only about 25 or 30 cases. the odd thing is, I had reloaded some of them in the long ago past, but I have no idea how I did it anymore, since I don't have any shell holder that will fit them.

.....ha, yeah, like the NCOWS shoots, newcomers don't need much. Get'em to come and shoot first. Then pique their interest in the rest.....

ironically... Robert, the hood you saw over by the old car trailer, the one I've been saving for "sighting in".. it came off his crown vic...

With a name like Sterwerf I told him a Mauser and a Pickelhaube might be more appropriate.
