What are your thoughts on this hat...Looks vintage to me,maybe 40s,no liner,looks to be beaver at least to some extent,the stiching on the sweatband looks very good,but what gets me there is no name brand stamped on it,or size,or distibutor,does have a couple moth bites and nice silk hatband.

Maybe  custom made for someone? I picked it up very cheap from a family with 80 years of stuff they were clearing out.

That grey looks like a "Tom Mix"...nor sure what the leather brim could be..more pics off the front or back...I know Del can be a better gauge

Dang you get to feeling a bit under the weather and the whole dang world falls apart.

Rub it against your cheek and feel if it's good quality, that I'm sure you can do.  Someone most likely has had a new lining and sweat band put in it.  I've seen that before, hat makers either custom or full production mark em.  I've seen rebuilds like that before. 

BTW Rick, if that peanut gallery that showed up knowed 1/4 as much as I do, I could take a break once in a while.

Buck up old man i'm sittin here with a new hip i just got,i got to be with a walker for six friggin weeks.

I got the hat for 25.00,figgerd i can steam it up and stiffin it some and leave as is.I was thinkin it might be a redo,but had to hear it from the pro. Thanks Del hope ya get better,sinus stuff??I was sick bad with it for a month and had to get rid of it to have surgery,i'm in a valley and everyone has been hit very hard with it!! Grand duaghter and i suffered together with it.

That's not grey, that's silverbelly and I'm not so sure that it ios a Tom Mix. This is a Tom Mix:



I can't relly tell about the brim (it should be 5", but the crown looks high enough. The pencil roll (what's left of it) is correct, but the edge isn't bound and it isn't lined.

That looks more like a gus Bugs..Tom Mix is higher i believe.The one i got looks like The Silver Bullet here..

Just some sort of flu, just felt lousy today and had the day off so I just slept in, got the College Rodeo stuff in town this weekend and I'm gonna be busy with hats.  Gonna take the Grandkids on Sat, they are 7 and 5, already been promised some performers will come talk to them and heave their pictures taken with them.

Hard to say much about that beyond I think it's been rebuilt, I've made the linings before, I need to learn the sweat bands, maybe a project for next winter, I'd like to replace all mine with lambskin ones 2 inches wide like my Rand has, they kind of spoil a person.
