Starr cartridge carbine
« on: December 04, 2020, 07:07:41 PM »
A friend has acquired a Starr carbine, which I have to fondle for a while, with what appears to be a low serial number 30057.
He thought it was a 56-50 the groove diameter is about .534", it is a 5 groove barrel equal width lands and grooves, chamber is similar to my Spencer .580 in front of the rim and .560 at the front end.
Any information on it would be much appreciated or other places to find information.
Thanks,
Allan

Hi Morerams,

Sorry to report, my SRS research books have a limited listing for Starr Carbines and no serial #s even close to the one you Emailed to me.

The book, "Carbines of the US Cavalry, 1861-1905" by John D. McAulay may be of some help;  also check out: "U.S. Civil War Carbines" by Whisker, Yantz, and Hartzler, there are 6 pages devoted to the Starr Carbine.
