Krag and Springfield '03 bayonet compatibility?
« on: January 30, 2022, 02:27:07 PM »
I scored a "1902"-dated U.S. Krag bayonet with the steel scabbard at a local auction today.
I was surprised to find that the Krag bayonet would fit my 1903 Springfield rifle...!
Is this the norm?

Thank you, Major.
Nice to get my suspicions confirmed.
I already have a couple of "1942"-dated Garand-bayonets that have been made by shortening the original 16" blades of '03 bayonets.
I think the Krag-bayonet with its wooden grip-scales and 11-3/4" blade look better (more "Punitive Expedition period correct") on the '03 than the short Garand-bayonet with its bakelite grips.
Now looking for an original looong 03' bayonet....!

Krag bayonets were used a great deal in WW1 as their shorter length made them handier in the trenchs.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

Krag Bayonets and M 1905 Springfield/RIA Bayonets, whether full-length or WW II "shortened" or regular production will fit the Krag, M 1903, and M-1 Garand.  The "M" series will not - M3, M4 etc. If you really want to "reach out and touch" someone - try the full-length M1905 on a Krag.   ;D
