Navy Arms 44-40 Remington Indian Scout Commemorative?
« on: July 27, 2008, 04:23:26 PM »
It seems I just won an auction for a Uberti made, Navy Arms imported,  nickeled Remington 1875 Indian Scout Commemorative. It's numbered #169 of 200.
What caught my attention about this revolver was that it was chambered for the .44-40 cartridge.
The date stamp looks to be "AC", which I think is 1977. Is that correct? Anyone have any other information about it? Couldn't seem to find any currently available in .44-40?
Thanks,

Bangor Dan

I have owned in the past NA Remington 75's in 44-40, blue, standard finish.  Don't know if you are talking about the Commemoratives only, but the caliber used to be available.

Good deal, B-Dan!  Is this your first Remington '75?

I don't have a special Commemorative like yours, but I love mine!

I hope the deal was at least ok. I snagged it because it's a 44-40, and they are not currently available from any importers I'm aware of. I also think the post front sight is interesting. The seller has offered me a companion Indian Scout Commemorative nickeled '73 carbine, but I just don't have the funds to get it from him. If anyone is interested in the carbine, I'd gladly provide the seller's contact info.
I also have a Uberti '75 nickeled Outlaw in 45 colt. I had one that was cch and blued, but the hammer spring was real stiff, as usual, and when I replaced it with the aftermarket main spring from VTI it made the trigger WAY too light. So I put the original spring back in and traded it back to the dealer and put another of the nickled Outlaws (45 colt) on layaway.

Navy Arms started importing (making) 1875 Rem. in 44-40 in late 1976, or early 1977.  They Purchased Replica Arms in 1975 which was the original 1875 Importer, but only in 45LC.  Post Sights were common up to 1993 had Navy catalog whcihc only showed post.  Uberti discontinued the post sights by 1998. I had to send my 1875 44-40 made in 1977 back becasue recoil plate problem and Navy send me a EMF 1875 with a blade sight. When I complained Navy said they didn't import the 1875 anymore. EMF said they were only importing the bladed sight now. Watch out for a recoil plate problem, primers back out making the cylindar unable to turn, only on 2 of the 6 chambers. When I got it in 1977 I test fired 1/2 box of ammo and maybe another 200 rounds over the years when the problem developed. I thought the cylinder was bad but Navy said the frame. The 1st 3 boxes of ammo were Western and Winchester, no problems as I could remember, the last was Remington, when the problem started,  head on the Remington case is thicker, which could have been the problem.  The Original 1875 all had post sights, and were only in 44-40. Keep it. The finish is probabley better, the 45LC finish case coloring is as rich as my Colt 1973 Peacemaker Centennial. The replacement 44-40 finish is nowhere as nice as the one I sent back.

Just saw this older post because Russ1943 brought it back to the top.  Cimarron does carry the Uberti 1875 in 44-40 if you need another (blade front sight).
