Title: Woo Hoo !!!!
Post by: Hoof Hearted on June 11, 2012, 10:08:29 PM
This is the 1st post in something I have been trying to get going for a couple years!

My original concept for this forum was to have a place to discuss the various SAA clones and their differences as well as to be able to ask other members about their experiences and opinions regarding the myriad of different SAA clones available on the market.

From the old (Jaegers and Dakotas) to the new (Beretta Stampedes and the like) there have been many incarnations. Some with differing grip shapes, some with coil springs, some with wide or narrow sights......well you get my drift.

Please respect the fact that this is not a Ruger forum or a Colt forum or even a USFA forum (we already have those) but a dedicated 1873, SAA CLONE FORUM.

Thanks to the Marshal, I raise my glass in toast to you!

I remember reading the original post requesting this forum.  Don't know why I didn't post a YES vote on it.  I meant to.
Anyway....  I'm glad it's here.  I shoot SAA clones exclusively, (when not shooting Vaqueros that is).  Keeps me from risking my real Colts.  I only shoot the real Colts on special occasions.

Yea.........but I guess it's better than calling them FAKES ::)
Kind of conjures up the Star Wars movies for me ::)

I have heard Repros, repops, re POOPS, clones, fakes, copies (might be the sincerest form of flattery) and some no so nice names too ;D

It is very good to see a forum dedicated to the guns that helped keep the interest in SAAs alive. Most all of my cowboy guns are either Ubertis or ASMs.

Thanks RR!

I was about to think we were getting caught up in semantics when we aught to be moving forward for the "greater good" ::)

Nobody has more respect for the Italian guns than yours truly. My very first SAA was an Iver Johnson Cattleman back in 1974, and I've owned many more Uberti, Jaeger, ASM, and Piettas.
I had a serious fondness for USFA for a while, but that fondness paled after awhile (for specific reasons), hence the reason I stopped being the Moderator over on the USFA board, I just could not believe in USFA any longer.

I am very glad to see this board, as it is something I suggested a couple times. I wish you all the best for the success of the board and will support you and the board all the way. Anything I can do to help, you need just ask.   :)

Thanks RR!

Although I wasn't referring to you in the post that you quoted (just pointing out that the posters were getting caught up in the name) I do feel much the same way that you do. While there was a time that I felt myself a "Chevy Man" I soon learned that all makes had something to offer and that w/o diversity all women would look the same :-*

The USFA (can I call it a debaucle?) thing is really a shame for us but the owner can do whatever he pleases as it is his company (sometimes I think we are just jealous of that), to run the way he chooses. Many have come and gone and I hated to see the demise of ASM as the importers were just getting their copy to where we all could really appreciate it. Such is the way of the world!

Come on in!
Sit Back and kick yer boots off (if yer feet ain't too stinky).
And enjoy a cold one!

All are welcome here........

I think USFA will go out of business completely if they put their hopes on that ZIP gun.

I have 2 Uberti's (Stoegers) a EMF "Frontier Sixshooter" insribed on the barrel a Colt and a pair of Smoke Wagons in .44WCF. All my cowboy guns are 44WCF. Of all theses "clones" the Smoke Wagons by Taylor's are by far the nicest to shoot. Slightly lowered hammer, thicker ramp on the top of the frame and a thicker front sight. All slicked up and ready to go. PLUS, Taylor's has great customer service.

I love my Smoke Wagons!  ;)Rye

I have a number of Uberti revolvers and my one Smoke Wagon is by far the smoothest and most fun to shoot.
I'm no "expert"; just someone who enjoys a nice SAA.

I love all single actions. I started out as strictly a Colt guy back in the early Seventies, but at that time the imports (I won't call them clones) had a spotty reputation, deserved or not. I finally held my breath and bought a few Ubertis in the late Ninetys and surprise, they shot well and I grew fond of them. I continued to acquire more of both since and so far there have been two guns that I would   say should not have left the factory in that condition---both brand new Colts. I am not here to knock any manufacturer as I am delighted at the availability of Old West guns today, but you better believe I'll buy another Uberti when the opportunity presents itself.   Navy Six

What kinda of poop on GW are you looking for? I do know that my ol' friend, Boyd Davis aka U.S. Grant of EMF fame and SASS fame  was the distributor for them back in the early '60s.

In the aviation market, we call such airplanes "replicas"

"Clone" is so SiFi

And in the 1911 market, in which it seems everyone makes one now, they just call them 1911's by whatever maker.
