Shooters World Muti-Purpose Black Substitute?
« on: November 11, 2020, 12:32:20 PM »
I was just asked what I thought about the Shooters World Multi-Purpose Black Substitute. It's supposed to be 3F grade. I never heard of it. Does anyone have the intel on this stuff?
A lot of what is taken for engineering fact, if you dig into it far enough, is often just someone's opinion.

Never heard of it, but doesn't Shooter's World own APP?  My first guess would be it is another version of APP.

So is it like Black MZ?

APP  used the logo " Clean Shot "  and was sued  for patent infringement

They reorganized as American Pioneer Powder , Jim Shockey's Gold and Black MZ

I don't know if it is the same formula as the Shooter's World product

Really? They were Clean Shot for some years before changing to APP.  And that was before the smokeless "Clean Shot" was produced.

 :)  Well By Golly   ;)

Yes to all of the above . . . . "mostly"   Unfortunately, I cannot confirm nor deny ownership of APP.  As far as I have known, AMERICAN PIONEER POWDER is their own entity.

BLACK MZ is/was manufactured by APP and reflects the same same patent information as APP Powders.

The Shooters World product is Black MZ renamed and differently ground (I think).  As far as I know it is the same granulation as 3F APP and as such should/will meter well thru most progressive measures.  It will also require a certain degree of cleanliness following a loading session (should be done anyway, YES??)

I may indulge in more research, although, so long as I can source APP in quantity without problem, I must admit, I don't care (sometimes I are such a SNOT   ::) )

To clearify ..
American Pioneer Powder started off life as "Clean Shot". . Clean Shot Technologies was sued by Hodgdon for infringing on the cylindrical pellet patent ( Clean Shot in pellet form, was called Quick Shot)  and went bankrupt and a new company, American Pioneer Powder, was formed, which now sells powder under the brand of American Pioneer.
I seem to recall  a bit of a legal battle with Clean Shot and Goex in 1999 as the name "Clean Shot". was to close to "Clear Shot" Goex brand.  Clear Shot (Goex) ended production on Nov. 31, 2001.

Jim Shockey's was paid by American Pioneer Powder to endorce the brand logo  "Shockey's Gold"  I believe that has now reached termanation.

Black MZ was the product American Pioneer Powder packaged for Alliant  now discontenued.

........................................

Shooters World Multi Purpose FFF Black Black Powder Substitute is manufactured  by Lovex LHS-Germany GmbH
Shooters World LLC imports, distributes European Lovex propellants in the United States.

However...The Shooters World product  CLEAN SHOT PROPELLANT is a SMOKLESS powder.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten it was about the pellets, not the name.

I shot lots of Clearshot.  Great stuff, smoked like crazy.  The first test batch they made (mixed by hand ?) required no lube.  Then many delays getting it into production.  So when available I immediately ordered a case to split with a friend.  Turns out the new stuff needs lube like BP.  It was also very under-powered compared to BP.  Well dang.  Still smoked like crazy!   :)
