One of my acquisitions last year was a Nickeled 1898 with a white canvas sling. Build up in barrel heavy, took a lot of time to clean out. The box for the magazine will open, but with a lot of force, so guessing it was single load for ceremony purposes. My question, can anyone even guess, how many ended up nickeled?

Well At least one fer sure :o Possibly 2. Would have been one on each side bringing in the colors.

Parts of One of Drydock's are nickeled, so I'm guessing at least 3

There were plated Krags and '03s available for any Legion Post, VFW Post, High School/College Drill Teams and Color Guards - figure out how many of 'those' there were, and you have a pretty good idea that they're not uncommon.
Most were turned in for destruction long before the DCM was able to open up for M1 sales in the late '70's because there was no perceived need for them when most of those named elements shifted to the non-functioning Drill Rifles that kept weapons out of schools.
White Drill slings - both leather and cotton web - and chromed bayonets and painted scabbards and white webbing were all a part of it.

As indicated, I have a Krag, built up from a receiver found on GB, with most everything else sourced off Ebay. Most of the small parts, barrel bands, nose cap, side plate, hopper door, trigger guard and buttplate, are nickle plated, as I found a lot of these for MUCH cheaper than the blued parts.
Call it my Navy salt water rifle . . .

To my knowledge, NO Krags were ever nickled at the arsenal, or during their time in service. (no matter what one might read on sales sites) These all would have been done by 3rd parties after sale. So there are no records, thus no one will ever know.

I've personally observed a U S Navy (Reserve?) honor guard present the colors at a Denver baseball game in the early 1990's armed with silver finished (I assumed nickle plated) Krag rifles. I don't recall if it was at a Rockies game or the triple A, Denver Zephyrs (Brewers) who played in Denver before MLB came to town. I do recall it was in the old Mile High stadium but the Rockies also played at MH for the first season or two.

Is a nickeled Krag the rifle version of a "Pimp Gun"?! Seriously, they have their own history, and if you want to, you can take it to a place that does plating and have them remove the nickel. It's been done before.

I do remember seeing a Remington 870 in Nickle as a Marine (i.e. carry it on your sailboat) shotgun. I"m not really sure I'd go there, but then I don't have a sailboat either.

Personally, had I a Nickel Plate parade rifle (I don't), I doubt I'd want to remove the Nickel Plate. Just shoot it as/is. As long as it's still functional, no reason to strip the plate. One would certainly be the star attraction at the local shooting gallery ::)

When I got hired for my first civilian Police job in 1978 I had to run out and buy a Colt or S & W .357 Mag. on short notice. They didn't like my Dan Wesson and that was the only .357 I owned at that time, hey I was still young then. Only thing I could find was nickel plated S & W model 19, boy did I stand out when that thing came out of it's holster. Took me forever to convince our Chief That I should be able to carry my blue 1911. I have a 1911 on my hip right now, so you can guess how happy I was back then.
S&W, Dan Wesson and that first 1911 got traded off over the years, I don't recall to who or for what but the're gone. I ran into a "can't turn it down" deal on a nickle plated M19 a few years ago and picked it up for about what I paid for the first one in 78, I don't think I've ever shot it , not sure what I'm going to do with it but I have one again :)
