40-60 original bullet?
Buffboy:
I've been using the 245gr(some are advertised as 240gr out the the same mold) bullet (Lyman # 403169) from a couple different suppliers for my 40-60 Chaparral. It's working well for both black(subs) and smokeless loads but I'd like to know if anyone has found someone making a copy of the original 220(?) gr bullet.

Buffboy, I have no first hand experience with the 40-60, but I am sure someone will chime in who does. I favor the original Winchester molds for the 76 calibers, and I have seen a lot of them in 40-60 caliber - mostly on e-bay.
Maybe John Boy or w44wcf will be able to help.

Buff, call Lyman Customer Service. If my eyes didn't failed me, read in The Guns of the Old West that Lyman dug out the original cherry and is making the original mold

Buffboy,
The Ideal mold number for the .40-60 was 403168. In the Ideal 1933 catalog, it states "Standard bullet for the .40-60 Winchester".
It became a special order bullet mold in the late 1930's and I don't see it listed in any of the catalogs as a standard mold after that.
Hopefully, John Boy is right and Lyman is/will be making the mold once again.

Hell-Er High Water:
The Lyman web site shows bullet 403168 to be available in an "updated and dimensioned to modern standards" version.
Midway shows this two cavity mould to be 0.406" diameter and in stock.
It looks like it is available for those that want to give it a try.
