Hi is any one shooting the Chiappa 1874 sharps 45/70 is so are you happy with it ???

I didn't know Chiappa made such a gun. :o I've been asking about their Rhino on another forum. ::)

Roy Cobb. We have two members at the club I shoot at with Sharps made by Chiappa in 45/70 and they shoot very well, they are both very happy with them.

Great to hear that and I found a local gun shop owner who shoots one as well and he loves it so put a deposit on one today now to wait for the PTA to come through

The current issue of Guns Of The Old West has a review of the Chiappa 1886 Trapper in caliber 45-70. I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but it looks quite interesting. I've been wanting a lever gun in 45-70 for quite some time. This could be the one. 8)

I have a 2002 Chiappa Sharps 32 inch barreled 45/70. It is one of the old models with the small firing pin that is reported to be prone to breaking. I have owned the gun for about a year and after about 400 - 500 rounds fired by me the pin broke. I have no idea of the number of rounds the previous owner fired. The newer model have a larger firing pin that does not readily break. Fit and finish on my rifle is fine. It is not a presentation piece, but does not cost like one. It is a good serviceable rifle with no visible defects.
I have yet to find that magic sub moa black powder round but the rifle shoot 2 - 3 min with the stock barrel sights and my 62 year old eyes that do not see the rear sight well using smokeless rounds.
Do not know if the Chiappa is as inherently accurate as the pedersoli, but they do not cost as much either.
