Powder flask full of... sand??
« on: February 03, 2021, 07:56:37 PM »
Howdy partners!

I just took delivery of a pedersoli powder flask and there was something in it. Opening the spout and looking in it there was what looked to be brown sand, some large brown grains anyway. Any ideas as to what this is, and has anyone gotten it before?

It was. Brand new in box from DGW.

Upon a quick google search, it may be tumbling media... why that is in the flask I have no idea. Empties out easy enough I guess.

Might be some kind of flux , left from the soldering of the two shells  :-\

or perhaps polishing media .... I have one that came new in box , just sailboat fuel within though....

Who knows.... I'm gonna just pour it out and throw in some 777 and not worry about it!

Was it full?  Maybe it was tumbled at some point during production or after to polish it up and somebody forgot to plug the hole.  If so, probably crushed walnut.

Considered that myself , if it were full up don't no if it was....
also though maybe it was returned for some reason  by the previous buyer having put whatever in there  ???

Ah ! Probably a radical anti- something or other conspiracy ::)

Great theories all but I do believe it was tumbling media, why it was in there, I have no clue. No holes that I can see but I also have no reason to believe it's a return. I have a hard time believing DGW would do that.

It wasn't that full, just a little sloshing around the bottom. Some of it was kind of stuck to the solder too, so I think Pedersoli is trying to get these out the door as quick as possible. Oh well, worth it for the sale price (assuming it doesn't split or anything on me!)

No it was just traces of what I assumed was polishing media. Figured they might do it to clean any flux residue from soldering but that was just my hypothesis.

Got a new Walker flask several years ago and it had quite a bit of junk in it. Had to completely take it apart and clean it out.
