Cowboy belt knife

Made this from an old file.  I like to leave some of the file marks on the blade if possible to show it's good steel.

Handle is antler with a pewter bolster.

Mexican loop sheath inspired by a couple in the Tombstone book.

I just found this portion of the forum - Good looking knife, but I especially like the sheath.  You did REALLY good there.  With your permission I might use that as a pattern for a couple of sheaths.  Tell us more about the blade - how did you heat treat the file?

Usually I heat till the steel won’t attract a Magnet, hold for a few seconds and quench in vet grade mineral oil heated to 150 F.

I temper in the oven.  This I did at 450 F for a hour.

Feel free to copy the sheath.  That’s what I did from the book...lol

I agree. In a belt sheath the pommel should not rise above the top of the belt.
