Title: Rifle questions
Post by: LongWalker on March 09, 2021, 10:53:02 PM
A couple of quick questions regarding rifles for use in GAF competition:

Is re-crowning permitted?  And if so, does it need to be the military-style crown?

Is use of powder-coated bullets allowed?

Thanks,
Jim

Yes to both.  Does not have to be a "military" crown.

Hi
Never heard of a "military crown" for a rifle before.  What's the difference?
Thanks

A rounded crown is often found on US military rifles, and is considered a "military" crown in many places.

They weren't always really rounded anymore if they were arsenal recrowned, either.

Thanks!  I picked up another Krag in need of some work, and while I could part it together enough to get a reasonable facsimile of a carbine, it was definitely going to need to be re-crowned in order to have any hope of decent accuracy.

Been messing some with powder-coated bullets, and have had some success with one of my rifles.  Wasn't sure if a load like that was acceptable (assuming decent groups are possible below the velocity cut off).
