Like the KVC match, this is meant to be a variation on a "Getting a Stand" style hunt match.

Would like to see some of the KVC shooters come on up.

I'm recruiting one of our local shooters for the next Buffalo Walls shoot.  He's already shopping for rifles!

I would love ro make my way there.  Not sure what next year holds, been crazy busy at work.  I have to say i am exhibiting a bit of personal growth (wow a pun that may set me back).  I was the tallest person in my family at age 10.  Reached height i am now at age 12.  But i have a big bag (like the kind you can stuff a leprechaun in) of short jokes to toss out like dwarf tossing.   Amazed i kept them to myself.

I've been looking at Sharps rifles (because I should probably have one), but I'll probably end up shooting either my '76 or my '86 if I need a heavier bullet.  (I'll have to work a bit harder at talking myself into a Sharps.......)

I have always liked the look of the Sharps, but liked the trapdoor better.  Wooly Dan likes his Sharps.    If i won the lottery, i would have one in all sorts of calibers.   (-:

Trapdoors are awfully cool, as well.  I could shoot my '68, too.

I would think a Trapdoor with a Buffington sight would work quite well for this.  As long as you had the eyes to be able to use that sight!  And a good recoil pad.

A few years ago I thought of building a Heavy Barrel Trapdoor for this kind of shooting.  After I got done pricing everything needed I went and ordered a 45-70 Shiloh through Bill Goodman.  Get one a lot faster that way.

Ned, you and your friend need to come down to KVC this October.  No point in only doing this once a year!

I been following this vicariously.

Never had a heavy barrel "Buffalo" Sharps, but several Carbines.
My first was 1863 Garrett percussion, then an original 1859,
which I cast my own lead.
another original 63 and finally a Pedersoli 74 in 45/70.

Presently and sadly, I don't have any of them  :P

Mark on your calendars, the KVC shoot is October 10-12.   Main shooting is the 11th.  A nice relaxed shoot.  Round count is 30.  You need to knock the target over or hit it twice.  15 shots at each of two distances.    Good time.  Usually we have a chuck wagon.   Camping too.   More details will come to the NCOWs board.

I had planned to attend the 2024 KVC shoot, but I ended up doing this instead:

I have a Pedersoli '74 rifle, but I don't have a heavy.

This was taken 2 years ago last March, When we only had the one Buff. I'm not sure how the herd grew so quickly, especially when Drydock's first hit ensured this poor young buff would never reproduce.  ::)  :o

Major, if you make it to Kansas, I will find you a rifle and ammo.  It may be a trapdoor infantry rifle with open sights, but if nothing else the sound of the bullets going by have been known to scare buffalo to death.

Mog, that is very generous and inviting of you. thanks.

I did have an Infantry 1888 Springfield rifle with a round-rod bayonet & Buffington Sights.
A Friend talked me out of it, as my interest was drawn to a Krag,
and that splendid little war.
