Title: The August Coffee,Tea and foodstuffs.
Post by: Major E A Sterner on July 31, 2019, 11:45:10 PM
The year is going fast, we'll be getting falling leaves and temps before you know it.

Will repost this here.

Long story,  wife's heart melted all over the easy chair tonight and I  made a phone call.

Not sure yet but pretty sure one of these blacks is a Male.  If so looks like I'm getting an Okie dog.

Yeah wasn't going to do another pup, wife says we have to now. ;D

In Woodward Oklahoma, if it works I will pick him up in Kansas in two weeks, delivered via a Chuckwagon. ::)

Up date it appears the black one in front is a Male.  My friend in Woodward is going to find out and he's friends with the guy who runs the shelter.

We want him because he's black and smiles.  Labs always seem to smile.

Robin came over yesterday and looked around and said dog.  Her mom had to tell her he was gone like Bailie, her yellow one they lost in May, niece came over and used her key to drop something  off, said it was strange not getting a short wood when she did it.

Lexie has been crying, we have done a few things like he was still here so now this popped up out of the blue so we are going to try.

I am about hungry right now- my morning toast with strawberry preserves has worn off.  Not sure what I want to prepare. Maybe some homegrown tomatoes and a dollop of ricotta. Salt n Pepper of course.  I?d like a big chunk of steak. None here and I am too whipped to go to town.

Have had too many fires around the homestead the past week and honestly since April. Trees falling 3 goats  a few ducks and a couple of hens, animals dying. My dog disappeared not that we are lacking in dogs and cats here. I was attached to the missing one.
Flooding from storms. Now the drains backed up. I have spent most of the day tackking then. I think that is the win Column  now. Still need to haul brush off to burn pile.
I am worn out.

Well today's report on the Life of Riley, he is going to Colorado tomorrow to pick up dutch ovens and is on his way right now to the Dairy Queen to get ice cream.

Not only is he gonna help heal our broken hearts, he is doing that right now to a guy who used to have an elderly mom who he took care of.

His mom passed away just before Christmas.

Evening all.

Night time in Billings, s usual there's a thunderstorm.

Lot has happened in the past couple days. In order:
1: I managed to get a motorcycle. 1982 Yamaha XJ750.
2: I moved into a new place with my girlfriend, with 48 hours notice. That was exciting. But, we're in now. I have a full stove and oven now.
3: I was advised to get start looking for a new job by a co-worker. The place we're at now is getting run into the ground. I'm going to guess it's got about six months before they close the doors. I have an application in at Cabela's and a couple other places.
4: I worked 85 hours in 12 days at a corner Mart. I've done longer, but it was more interesting work.
5: I got a collectible Susan B Anthony silver dollar at the store today. Worth about $6.

Del, I'm sorry to hear about the dog. But it looks like you've got a good one with Riley.  Here's to friends, new and old, two and four legged.

We now have an owl decoy sitting on our back porch. Hopefully "Yahooty" will keep the local birds from building nests back there again.

Went to my parents' grave today, this week they put a new marker out for my Dad, for his military service. It is really nice but unfortunately his records were lost back in the 70s in a fire so they couldn't list his Bronze Star on the marker.

Major score today....

Went to the Toy store , Some fellow had brought in his NIB Springfield Armory Mil-spec with upgrade sights and a SS Comp Grade Barrel.
He bought about a Month ago, Decided he d rather have a Glock G17 Gen 4  ???
So he was motivated and offered it about $200 under list he paid $749.99 a Cabelas + shipping.
I was just about to pay his asking $550.00 when he say's he'd take $500 remember NIB !!!
So I pipe up, I have a G17 Gen.4 ( the one I won in a door prize drawing at the range)
He wants to trade  ;D  ...Im   ah OK !
So the trade is even Steven

Glock 17 is to big for comfortable CCW,  anyway....

...now I figure to get a G26 , but instead brought home a NIB Sig 365 at dealer price

I just picked up a pair of Jimmy Spurs .357 Bisley Vaqueros, 5& 1/2 inch barrels. I traded a Mossberg 835 (I got this from a coworker for $100.00 because I helped him sell off all his guns when he was goin through a divorce) that I had set up for 3 gun and $800 cash, so I basically got the pistols for the cost of the action jobs.

We had a bunch of lightning last night and some rain. Locally wasn?t too bad. Power flickered at one moment. Patchy dense fog now.
Currently 70 degrees with 94% humidity.

I may have to stay in awhile this morning.

Told the TV thing to kiss my you know what a long time ago.  Think I watched 3, they paid too much for a 40-41 Plymouth coupe, missed a early 50's 4WD Ferguson tractor, walked right by, they are from Iowa for damned sakes,  people would give their first born child for that.

Also never even seemed to notice what looked like an Officer's  trapdoor on a wall but was excited about s dirty worn out Stetson.  Nope, all them shows like that lower your IQ for days.

Major have you fired your newest aquistion- the 1911?

Glen they don?t buy tractors- but if you watch the shows you can figure out who has it if you want it. They pay way too much for barn find cars.  They like loading the van with stuff they can physically load themselves.  Half of it doesn?t ever make there stores. Look at the walls in Cracker Barrel.

A friend of mine was on that show, He has a collection of Packards including serial number 1 of a 1957 Convertible. He told me that the stuff they "Bought" on camera was just window dressing with most of it staying with him. He also said that they have a couple semi's that they put the stuff in that they do take as well as a huge class A motor coach that they sleep in. The whole show is pretty much fake.

Yep !  actually its is all smoke & mirrors.... in fact the two Mike & Frank don't cut the deals....the producers have already cut the deals , the haggling is all scripted.
Prices have already been set or paid.
The two (Mike & Frank) thou their background is mostly fact , they don't do the day to day travel anymore,  they come in to shoot the episode.
The Motor home is on set comfort, the boys do not sleep in.
Both are Millionaire, Mike being the wealthier of the two, both have had legal woes , with regards to the show suits have been leveled at Frank.

The Iowa store, and for that matter the Nashville outlet both have day to day staff ...not the cast , I:E , Frank, Mike or Dani
and the biggest traffic of patrons to the stores are for Tee Shirts & TV show merchandise.

Like all the so call reality shows....little of what you see is !  and it is all loosely choreographed.

It is spoon fed Pablum ,  but beats the insipid laugh tracked , every line a zinger talkback or sexual innuendo  of the BS Networks.

And that is the reason I gave up TV years ago, didn't take much watching to figure out it was all bullshit.

I decided years ago I have no reason to inflict bs on myself.

We at least realize ,most that stuff is fake, too much of the rest of the world don't.

Evening all.

Weather was sunny and hot. I didn't fly this morning because I was too tired from not being able to sleep.

In other news, I'm putting in my two weeks notice at this place I'm working right now. They've pushed too many of my buttons for a place only offering $10.25 with no benefits for full time work.  Working me twelve days straight but with the hours spread so I don't get any over time, except for one day where I worked 11.5 hours but only got 3 hours of OT.  Then I got chewed out for working so long because I was supposed to clock out and not get overtime, but nobody told me that. Then yesterday the boss came in three separate times to tell me specifically that the paperwork keeps coming up wrong, when I very rarely do the paperwork. An when I do, it usually comes up just as accurate as the managers' (+/-20?). None of the other employees got that visit.

I nearly walked out yesterday, but I decided to be professional and give two weeks.  I have an interview at Scheels tomorrow, and I'm waiting to hear back from Cabela's, so I have options.

I'll put the soap box away now.

M2 I have the same model and really abuse it - no complaints about it. I have changed the grips and saved the factory ones and a set of mother of Pearl grips for it.  The factory holster works pretty good also. I use several type holsters though. Mostly a pancake style.

Hadn't planned to carry , I have several 1911's  & A1's

I was looking at maybe getting a Colt 1991 ...(really wanted a Colt 2011 re-issue WW1 redue but they were limited to 1500 guns and now north of 2 grand)

This other guy happens in to my friendly LGS on Friday with the NIB Springfield Armory Mil-spec ( NIB w/ 2 mags, belt carry & mag carry Kydex ) to consign
he asking $550 he's  motivated and say's he take 500 , he wants to get a Glock 17 Gen. 4

Well now I just happen to have Glock 17 Gen. ( I won as door prize ) so the trade is cast !
He got what he wanted...and I scored BIG TIME .... I had nothing in the Glock and it was gathering dust.

Same set up as mine. Never got use to mag carrier and opted for another style.

Yeah I had bought the pimp grips for Wild Bunch- heck I bought the gun for that. I since found a nice set of double diamond grips that are in it now. I do carry it. I have had spent a lot of time at the range with it. It shoots better than I do, not ammo finicky only hiccups have been my fault.
I do practice with a dummy round in a mag. To build clearing skills. To get my guard card they did this too. That and one handed mag change with hand behind your back.

Good morning folks. Working on a pot of fresh ground coffee, gonna have lunch with TLOTH and knock out some indoor errands today. Supposed to hit 90+ so indoor AC sounds good! TK, I understand, retired now and took a part time job at Rural King just to get out of the house. They kept jerking me around on requested days off, so my wife was like, just quit. Smart lady, no taste in men, but she's a sweetie!

Because they don't call old pharts back who apply.

Young managers are afraid they'll be shown up.  Young assistant manager of one told me that and he has no say in who the manager hires.

HEAT ADVISORY & STRONG STORMS: Temperatures this afternoon are well into the 90s again and with dew points well into the 70s, we are seeing a dangerous combination of heat and humidity today that is allowing heat indices to reach the 105-108 degree range. For that reason the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory through the afternoon and evening hours for much of West and Central Alabama as dangerous heat levels are expected.

Morning all.

Rainy in Billings today.

Currently sitting in the waiting room of a radiology center while my lady gets an MRI and x-ray on her knee. After that, I'm headed to Great Falls for the weekend for my regularly scheduled dues to Uncle Sam.

Major, those are cool pictures of the rocket. Out here our space technology is mostly limited to ICBMs, but we don't get to see those.  Though Cool. Frank Borman, commander of the first orbit of the moon, does live about 4 blocks from my house.

Now if you all will excuse me, I have a morning paper to read.

Afternoon all.

Billings is warm and sunny today, with a breeze all day.  Yesterday was rough though. As in, NOAA is investigating to determine if there was a tornado that hit town. I really believe that one hit us here. It was windy enough to be throwing rocks and golf ball size hail around off the ground. Someone on our street said there home weather station tops out at 100, and it got faster than that. The airport clocked 78mph sustained winds. There is damage all over the city, too.  My truck escaped with nothing but a broken marker light housing on the roof. My girlfriend's car got some minor pockmarks. No broken glass, but a couple others on campus lost car windows.

In other news, I'm sore today with no real idea why. I was moving like an old man at work.  ::)

Coffee and tea are ready.  Also Pickled eggs for those of you not in Geneva.

Weather continues here.  :o  yesterday?s farmers market was the slowest of the season. Good deal on melons and late peaches. Pinkeye peas, like Crowder peas. Watched TV last night and shucked them, 3 quart bags for freezer. Going to do peaches today.

CCI Blazer , American Eagle , Herter's USA ( Bass Pro/Cabela house brand ) and a Military/Police practice brown box
were all at 10.99 a box of 50 - 9MM

The CCI Blazer is USA made and Ivo had good results with It , Brass FMJ ,,, so it was a no brainer

I got the 45ACP @ 16.99

M2, I usually get Winchester White box 9mm from Wally World, for around $18 a hundred bulk box.

Blazer Brass is good, too, I've bought it for that $11 a box from LGS before. Wally W. has Federal Aluminum cheaper, but it doesn't feed well in my Shield. I'm told others have similar problems with AL in double stack mags, but works fine in single stack.

$16.99 isn't bad for .45.

Don't need Pizza tomorrow, need some today. Belated 10th Birthday party for the oldest one. Five Casey's Pizzas will have to do. She always has the party a week late, so it will be after school starts and it's easier to invite her friends.

Dick's will not miss me, I never went there anyway ,  now since their line in the sand , I never will .
There are a few scattered  a round Fla.

Read where they are losing Millions ?

Two bass Pro Shops within easy drive , one in Orlando about 35 miles and in Palm Bay about 45 miles ? they both had large Shooting Dept.
50 some feet of pistol display counter and behind the same in rifles... large Archery area with gallery.
6 double aisles of ammo with end gondola's of special offer and sales.

I got $25 bucks off just or signing up for the Club card ?.and earned 5 points (like Cabela bucks)

Our county fair starts today, Going with the family tomorrow, supposed to be Sunny and mid 80's til Thursday, then drop into upper 70's. They put out a press release that they will be checking for fire arms at all gates, said it's due to the shooting at the garlic fest, The fact that the person cut through the fence to get his guns in doesn't matter to them, "They're DOING something about it" Morons.
Title: Re: The August Coffee,Tea and foodstuffs.

If they really want to "DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT" maybe they should require all who enter the place over the age of 21 to show they ARE carrying... or at least one in every group. The local fair here isn't gated, except for the grandstand where they have the tractor pulls or music, so they can't really restrict (concealed)firearms. I expect if someone tried to open carry, they'd have the attention of the local police, who are all on duty there.

Disney parks do ... their security is like the TSA

all parks and rec areas have walk thru units, if you alarm they ask you to step aside for a wand search ... if they detect,  security with arrest or detention power intervenes.  They also search carry bags, purses & Backpacks.

There is the Disney village  these are restaurants , cinemas, retail stores on Disney property , the parking lot has numerous GUN free zones placards all over as do the business fronts ....

The theory is if its advertised a  gun free/ ban  all are safe...not so...because it is merely a posted soft target for the crazies ....

SHEEP flock in a confined area ....

I do not attend, patronize or accommodate the Business/Location that so sets itself above my 2nd amendment & legal carry permit.

I vote then with my wallet.

I have gotten over the past few years where I bruise fairly easy.  Even cuts from brushing something most wouldn?t get. Some times my arms and hands look like I have been beat with a club.  The other evening Suzanne asked how I got a black eye. Evening all.

Cooler day today. 75, instead of the previous 95.

For the past week my truck has been out of commission. I drove it Thursday night, then Friday morning it wouldn't start. I thought it was the starter, but I've been too busy to really check. So this morning I went to test more, and discovered that my starter is okay for now. I think this time it was the shift linkage. It wasn't registering as in Park, so it wouldn't crank. Cycle through the gears once and it fired right up. The joys of technology.

My manly man stick shift wouldn't start with the clutch clear to the floor, it has to be about a half inch off the floor.

Actually should start it tomorrow, been over a week since it has been.

My stick shift truck must be even more manly-er, it doesn't need the clutch pushed down. It can even crank in gear.

But as a farm truck, it sometimes doesn't get started for a month-needs some serious pumping of the gas pedal then.

I had some effort to load the mags the springs are stiff I have a MakerShot mag loader that helped, but Im told by members on Sig Board the Maglula Uplula is the loader to get...so I ordered one. ( OEM 10 rounders are just as hard on the thumb )

The Gun ran flawlessly used Blazer 115 Grain brass case & some Sig brand brass 115 grain. I used 7 yards and cut center in good group one handed.

I had a similar problem with two new mags for my Smith 539.  Was looking for a mag loader assist, but managed to get all rounds loaded.  Once I let them sit for a few weeks loaded, they seemed to soften up and now loading is stiff, but very manageable.

After hearing some of the experiences here with the Sig 365,  I'm leaning very strongly to getting one to replace the 539 as my carry firearm,  Maybe a Christmas present to myself.

Here in Reno we have gone over 30 days without any rainfall, and it looks the same for the next 10 days.   Humidity is sitting at around 15% and temps in the low to mid 90's, I?m just holding my breath on the start of a mess of wildfires.  So far so good!

RussT, I'm surprised you had that problem with the 539 magazines, I have a 39-2 that I really like shooting, and I've never had any problems loading the mags by hand, I have 5 or 6 mags for it. I expect they are the same magazine. That's why the Shield surprised me, it's the first time I came across any that were that hard to load.

These were not original S&W mags, but three I got from Midway as extras to aid in the range time for my CCW quals.  They now reside in my desk drawer (unloaded) as backup for the two originals,

Only for my carry guns-2 spares for the Shield, and one for the LCP. The Smith 39, and the .45 aren't carry guns for me, they don't stay loaded.

Evening all.

Eventful day in Billings today. Not really. Went to breakfast with my girlfriend and then to work. Had to call the police on a guy stalking a 13 year old girl. Hopefully that comes to an end.  I had my 32, but it was one time I wish I had a 9mm.

On the matter of guns and magazines, I keep one spare magazine for my Beretta loaded. I only have 1 for the 32, and that lives in the gun.

Well probably have to feed the goats some hay this morning. They don?t like getting wet.

I don't keep any loaded AR mags, since I've still only got half an AR, I'm in no hurry to load mags. Be plenty of time for that whenever I finally get an upper.

The Maglula UPLULA loader is the BOMB !  works a champ ?.
solved the stiff Sig Mags- loading all 12 round in about 18 seconds.
and no issue inserting in the mag well either ( like I had with the MakerShot loader and could only load 11 rounds  )

I never worried about leaving the magazines loaded, My uncle gave me a box of various ammo that was his father in laws and along with the ammo was a 1911 military magazine with the loop on the bottom fully loaded with military ammo dated 1918, I replaced it with some white box ball I had to test the magazine and it went through the 7 rounds with out so much as a hick up. Worked great.

That's cause the old story is a wives tale.  If springs set that easy you'd want to jack up your car and block it when not in use so the springs didn't set.

Sometimes logic solves the problem.😉

Yes Sir... and other considerations like FTF & stove piping etc. , these are why I chose my J Frame(s) for so long.
No BANG ? squeeze again !

BTW I'll add, I have a captured Beretta (with capture papers) , that had a spare Mag. loaded with 5 rounds  1 dared 1937 and 4 dated 6-42
Captured in 1945 the Mag was secured in the Holsters pouch since 1945 . It fed fine with new ammo, I have saved the WW2 vintage.

I tend to not have loose loaded mags ? comes from when having children around & a loaded gun locked in a safe.
Now as the young'n'  is off the range , only the carry is loaded

It was a a magazine question- mostly busting the spring issue that the Major2 spelled out.

Morning all.

I have my grandfather's M1carbine magazine that he brought home from Tokyo in 1947. The ammo inside i dated at 1945.

I like my self loaders for defense because I've trained with them, and 99% of the problems I can expect to run into are solveable by tap-rack-bang.  My girlfriend doesn't have the hand strength or training I do, so I want to get her a 22mag j frame for exactly the reason the Major brought up. It goes click when it's supposed to go bang, you just pull the trigger again.

Of course, there's the tactics argument and all that, but we're a cowboy shooting forum, not Quantico. ::)

Also, I have a dozen or so loaded AR mags in my truck, but no AR to use them in. That part of the equation is over in Butte right now.

Well I filled him and he showed me his water dish was empty, demanding little cuss.

He figured out the touch lamp last night and turned it on as it was getting dark.

Gopher Grease who some of you know moved back in the are last week and stopped by to see him.  Watched him for a few minutes and said "that dog will hunt."  I done figured that out so I'm going to get traing gest and start on that.  Don't know if I can much anymore, but we are going to give it a go.  Need to get the tirus trap out, been about 10 years since I worked out with the 870, got a 5 gallon bucket of 28ga practice loads and stuff to make more.  Been thinking I need to get at it again, used to be damn good bordering on awsome with it.😉
