Krag parts
« on: May 05, 2016, 09:40:20 PM »
It looks like I need a different ejector for my 1896 Krag. Where do you Krag owners get your parts?

S & S Firearms has them, you can also try Gun Parts Corporation.  Ebay searches also work for some things.  I'm sure other people will chime in, but these are good places to start.

Cool!  Looks like another good source of parts.  Always good to have more sources!

The website says "All of our parts are guaranteed 100% original US Military surplus acquired in the 1950s from both W. Stokes Kirk in Philadelphia, PA and Bannerman's Island Arsenal, NY."
The parts arrived and are brand new. They were covered in rust preventative. I cleaned and installed them. The brass now flys almost as far as my 1903A3 flings brass.  ;D ;D ;D

I'm currently trying to resurrect my 1896 Krag. The forearm is busted so bad that it looks like a broom . I'm going to have to splice a new one.

I am being frugal on this project, I think I am going to attempt to put the broken pieces back together.

You should post some before pictures. Charles Issac is the "winner" so far in the broken Krag picture contest. Maybe yours is more spectacularly broken?

Ha Ha! Too bad they can't talk!  That one in my avatar had been mutilated too-forearm sawed off behind the rear band-had to add a forearm and extend the portion behind the band with a chunk of walnut i salvaged from the wrist of a bubbafied 1863 Springfield-what a mess! Found that Krag up in Maine for $155 back in early '98. Turned out OK too.

Both the forearms I got from S&S were warped. Your mileage may vary!

Odd you mention that, Sir Charles.

Their storage must not be climate controlled?

While they are a good source for many things, the two items of new production leather goods I had ordered in the past were dry rot, and I had to bathe them in Lexol to keep them from cracking further.  :'(

Mine was twisted to the point it busted many years ago. It has been sitting in an attic for the past 50 years, so the splinters were missing some pieces. I have it together now and I have made the steps to inlet another piece of walnut from where the missing pieces were located. I have seen similar repairs on Enfields and Mausers. Keep your fingers cross for this woodbutcher. If my scheme does not work out, I will opt for an amputation and a grafting a new forearm section.

That may be the case Sir!

If you decide to get rid of the old forearm, please don't throw it out-I'll gladly buy it. Even a busted up Krag forearm has value. M1903s-not so much

Acraglass Gel is the best thing I've found for piecing these things back together.
