Broke down and bought a 7.5 in Vaquero

I haven't bought a a Vaquero since I bought my daughter inlaw a NM Vaquero Birdshead 7 years ago. But I decided that I wanted a 7.5 inch for our Josie Wales matches that we do a couple of times a year. It's used but all my guns are used. Should be good medicine for our rifle targets. My 2 cas match guns have 4.5 in bbls, I also have a 3.5 Birdshead and a very nice custom Andy Horvath 2.5 inch shopkeeper that he built for me eons ago. The only real drawback is that my new toy is blue/case while all the rest are s/s but of course they're all .45s. Hopefully I can load up some .452 lc's this weekend and see how it shoots. Got plenty of 454's lc loaded for my rechambered martial webleys, colts and smiths but no 452s. I'll post pics.

BTW, just checked the cylinder throats and they all mic .4515 ish so they should be okay for .452 lead rnfp. Do need to clip a coil or two off the hammer spring and replace the alloy ejector rod hsg with steel.

Old vaqueros all had steel ejector housing I believe.

Nope. Lots of All-U-minimum used in Rugers. Most popular after-market accessory was a new steel Ejector Housing and a Crescent 'jector
rod. I had a kid's Beach Pail full of housings and rods before I took it to the Iron Mongers. At one time the Entire Grip Frame/Trigger Guard was Lum-min-dum. Anodized.

Actually, .4515 aren't exactly optimum for .452 bullets, but will work pretty ok. I personally wouldn't mess with throats for .0005. Optimum would be determined by the Bore Groove diameter. A difference of .0005 actually borders on "academic." The throat swaging a .452 bullet down to ..4515 just isn't an issue to fret over.

Somebody went in and reamed those throats - - - - - Betcha.

Some of us harmless eccentrics actually prefer 7" or longer barrels. Having said that I will admit that I just got a Schofield with a 3.5" bbl. My bride took a peek at it and said "that seems just your style"

What do you suppose she meant by that?

I certainly do like my 7.5 inch .38-40 New Service, great in a crossdraw, would love a 4.5 for my strong side holster. Wouldn't say I'm harmless but you could call me eccentric.

Yep, I'm a Schofield nut. I like pretty much any topbreak but I find the Schof the nicest shooter. This new 3.5 incher is a very nice piece.

You would love my Webley Greene target. A veerry long pull but it's smooth as glass without any stacking that I can feel.

New member here, howdy to all.

All my other six-guns are 4 5/8, but my local shop had this used 7 1/2 that for some reason I just couldn't walk past. I'm surprised how well I like it, especially with 255SWC over 8gr of Unique. I never planned on buying a barrel this long, but now I'm considering a 10" Buntline!

heck, 7.5" Vaqueros are just fine. My wife has a pair of them in .44 and shoots clean all of the time.
Actually I started out in SASS 18 yrs ago with 10.5" KSBk's.
They were all that I had at the time (because a customer decided that he didn't want them).

I found a 4 1/2 in .38-40 New Service to go with my 7 1/2 NS. Shot them last match, nice revolvers. Of course the grip adapter is gone. Wasn?t sure about the stags but I like them.

Just brought a 7 1/2" NMV stainless home, ivory look grips and a nice crisp trigger. Don't know how well I will like it, but such a good deal I couldn't pass it up. If I don't like it, I will find someone to swap with.
Ps Ed, do you still have the Tyler from that Colt NS?

Yes, I've still got it. I have a bad knuckle on my rt hand and have experimented with them to get that knuckle out of harms way.
