I will be hosting the 2023 Grand Muster, June 23, 24 & 25 at my farm. The theme will be The Spanish American War: The Cuban Campaign
This Muster will be open to anyone in the GAF. If not currently a member I can help you register. (Membership in the GAF is free and easy) By using Google Earth and going to 41°40'16.24"N Latitude and 99°19'42.54"W Longitude you can see the Grand Muster site. Registration forms are available below Participation will be limited to 50 shooters. Registration is $75 before May 15; $80 after May 15. Extra banquet meals are $17.50 (for non-shooting wives, girlfriends, and children, ect.).
The planned activities include: a 3 stage GAF steel target main match, a Long Range Rifle match, a Precision Pistol match and a GAF Expansion Era Match. While 3 stages for the main match doesn't sound like much, these three stages will be of the skirmish format and will feature about 20 knock down targets per stage. Round counts will be dependent on the number of times the shooter needs to shoot at each target to get it to fall. 100 rounds at least would be a good plan. This is a match that participants say truly needs to be experienced to be fully appreciated and another described as "The finest Victorian military firearms shooting match in the world."
Shooters will be able to sight in their rifles on Thursday and Friday afternoon and evening. Sighting in your rifles for the distances used is STRONGLY encouraged.
Long Range Rifle will be 100-300yds. on armor so full power jacketed bullets are fine for it.
The average high temperature in this area on June 30th is around 87 degrees
I've attached a FAQ sheet and a suggested equipment list.
We expect to run 3 or 4 Squads shooting concurrently. Each squad will cycle through each of the 3 main match stages, the long range match and the sidearm match on Saturday. The Long Range Match and the Precision Pistol Match will each be treated as a stage. We will run ahead of schedule if possible. We should be finished shooting the match by Saturday evening with awards presentation Saturday evening at the banquet if possible; however, if we run behind we will finish up Sunday morning. That also leaves Sunday available for happy fire and use of the Howitzer.
If you have a UTV/ATV that you would like to bring, you are welcome use it between stages.
The banquet will be at the Oscar's Palladium in Sargent and catered by Comstock Premier Lodge ( http://www.comstocklodge.com/ ) and the price of the banquet is included in your registration. If you are bringing a spouse or child who isn't a registered shooter the cost of an extra ticket for them is $17.50 Lodging is available at the lodge as well. If you are considering staying at the Comstock Lodge, don't wait too long to make reservations. I know at least one room was booked this year during the Muster for next year's muster. I've also reserved a block of rooms at the Wildlife Inn at nearby Taylor as well (308-942-6234) early registration is also suggested. We bought out both facilities in full in 2018.
The Grand Muster falls on the same weekend as the local city fair and the High School Alumni reunions so all area motels WILL sell out. If planning to stay in a motel MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS EARLY!

There are some who travel all the way from Texas and Canada . . .

And a gentleman from Florida that wants to come here as well. That might be your carpool ::)

Thanks guys for the invite. It is probably a long shot but I am thinking about it. I found myself reading the rules a regulations, and figuring out a catagory.
-
I've already printed out my registration for the Grand Muster. Filling it out to mail in here soon. Now just need to figure out what weapons and country to shoot before I leave. May have to bring a few and decide there. Looking forward to it and praying no physical problems to keep me away this year. Also planning to stop at the WW1 Museum on the way.

Gen Pitspitr:
We are hoping to make out it this year. The last several summer shooting seasons have been hampered by deaths and some family illnesses.
In fact, we even had to CXL out of the SASS State Matches for 3 years. And that's sort of a sin for a Territorial Governor.
If possible, we'd like to park our RV somewhere nearby for the weekend.
The video of the last Grand Muster is AWESOME!

Greg, the RV Campground in Sargent is very handy and extremely affordable, as a matter of fact CHEAP! $14 a day for full hookup. Very nice(when it's been cleaned) cinderblock restroom with running water, and dump station on site.
My wife still has not totally forgiven me for dragging her new camper up what she calls "the Goat Trail", and ripping of the fresh water drain pipe and one stabilizer.

Yes, there are 3 campgrounds within 10 miles of my place. If you don't want/need electricity or water, you could dry camp at the site, and, no you don't have to drag it up the so called goat trail. ;)
-
After the wind last year, I don’t think I am pitching the tent at the top. Goats and I will stay down below. Oh, if I am taking the trail, does that make me the GOAT? I am thinking the bar needs to be higher.

Our registration will be sent tomorrow.

All y'all have fun, hope today's little shower didn't wash out the road! Thanks to some last minute changes at work, I won't even be able to day-trip up there this year.
