Commanders are legal
« on: March 29, 2023, 11:48:01 AM »
I received official word from the Colt Historian today, that production for sale of the Commander began in October of 1949, making the 4.25" barrel 1911 legal for Zoot. Remember that the 4" bull barrel with a full length guide rod is not.

Why? I respectfully have to disagree Deacon, only 5 inch 1911s or 1911a1s should be allowed imo. It’s bad enough that modern 1911s [modern category] are even allowed. We are going to shoot a Wild Bunch/cas match in April. I’ll use my Marlin 1894, a Crazy Lee M12 riot and a 1911a1 AO 1911. Still don’t have my 1917 watercooled gas gun done yet. Always a fun shoot.
Give’em hell Pike.

My apologies, I read Wild Bunch and you’re talking Zoot. Apples and Brownings, totally different, you have to be dressed correctly to play in Zoot. Would love to get to your match. I suggested it at our last .38 snub revolver match [where we add a 2 inch to the handguns the shooter is using for 3 stages]. Afraid there was no real interest. I however do Zoot up.

I followed up because I got asked by a shooter who wanted to know. As AZSA used 12/31/1949 as our cut off date for introduction of firearms. So I called Colt and asked. I had done the same with the 870 several years ago.

Okay, Zoot is not Wild Bunch, so different guns. The Model 10 is legal in Zoot, but WB is 97 or 12 Winchesters for pump guns.
