How do I find a local Reenactment group?
« on: January 20, 2010, 04:20:49 PM »
Sorry if its been brought up here before. I am interested in possibly getting into the reenacting scene. I have tried a google search for local clubs but could not find one. Is there an easier way?

I am in the Pearl River, Louisiana area.

Thanks,

Rube

Also, visit your local reenactments and talk to the units present.  Most are always looking for new members, but you want to find a group that fits you.

I dont know of any near me. That is why I was hoping there would be a list somewhere or way to find out. I have been looking online with limited results. A few I have tried to contact are no longer websites and such.

If you're looking for a mounted unit you might try the U.S. Cavalry Association (http://www.uscavalry.org/).  They maintain a "Re-Enactors Registry" and may be able to help you.

For infantry or artillery I don't have any ready references.

When I was doing Mounted Cavalry, we had members from all over Florida, two in Georgia, One in NC and 3 from Ala.
Course we traveled quite a bit doing event as far west as West Texas, and north to Gettysburg, and many events in
Ill., Mo. ,Ark. ,Tenn. Ky, & N&S Carolina.

My point is , find a good unit in the persuasion you perfur ( Union or Confederate or even a unit that galvanizes { does both} )
in the Branch of service you want. Matters not if it's local, if you don't mind travel, the meca of events are elsewhere anyway.

I can stear you towards the Alabama Division, run by  Bill Rambo, in any case contact him, he will hook you up with a good group in any branch of service.
