I have a question may be stupid, but would a barrel from a Cimarron/Uberti 1861 Colt Navy interchange with a 1851 Richards-Mason conversion 38 special? I know it will need special ammo. Would a kirst ejector rod for 1860 army fit? I am trying to build a 1861 navy richards-mason in 28 special to go with my collection. Wish they would put navy grip frame on their 1860 Army richard's type II I 38 special, I would buy it in a heart beat.

 :) Hi Pappy ;)

As the one time king of parts swapping, I don't think so.  In the past, Uberti Percussion parts have not been a fitment to their cartridge conversions.  Both are historically built on the 1851 Frame but Uberti has been know to increase the dimensions of their cartridge guns.  I also don't know if the 1860 Kirst Ejector assembly would fit but would be worth a try.

You do have the option of fitting a Uberti Navy Pattern grip set to a Type II.  In the past, Uberti standardized frame/grip size throughout their lines.  Ergo you should be simply  able to order a Trigger Guard/Back Strap/Stock (for percussion) and those will bolt right up (or screws if you will).

Have you considered using a Kirst 1851 .38 Conversion for Uberti, on a Uberti 1861 Percussion donor??  It would give you an 1861 Conversion.

An accurate 61 conversion replica would require some Major surgery on the Barrel Assembly and the Ejector Assembly.  Good Luck

By the time I bought the kirst cylinder and sent the gun off to Ave the port cut(cause I don't have the guts to try myself, besides not having the eight tools) rhe cost would not be worth it. Yes I have thought about buying the Richard's type II in 38 and change the grip to they navy but thr grip frame does not seem to be available. Thinking about just buying the Richard's type II in the 38 and just settle with it. I just need to decide the barrel  length to go with

Short answer is no....the distance of the bore center line and the arbor pin center line is different.....the distance is increased in the Uberti made conversions due to the increased size of the cylinder. ;)

So would this be the same for grip frames? I thought about getting the Richard's type II in 38 special and interchange the grips with my 61 navy.

No, grip frames interchange....just barrels & cylinders don't.
