Title: I was confident
Post by: Major 2 on June 06, 2020, 06:48:57 PM
I was quite confident the Rhino was the coolest BUTT ugly revolver available ....

I have been shaken to the core !  :o

Standard Manufacture, the same folks that offer the $2000 Standard SAA ....

brings us the Thunderstruck 22 Mag. duel shot ( that's right 2 rounds with one pull of the trigger )

So homely, it is flat COOL   ???

I don’t see the value. Sorry.

Howdy Major,

You got the "butt ugly" part right. Coolest? Not even close. Cooler pistols? Luger, LeMat, Sharps Derringer, Webley-Fosbury, Howda, Colt Peacemaker set up with a Bridgeport rig. I could go on, but I want to lie down until I get the image of that Standard monstrosity out of my head.

Maybe others can add to the "cooler" list. (It's hard to imagine adding to the uglier list).

ps:forgot to mention my 3rd Model Dragon .45 Colt conversion.

Just to shed light , I posted simply as a conversation piece ... to me it is the USFA's   Zip Gun's revolver cousin   ::)

there is no comma  in " coolest BUTT ugly "   ;D  - Rat Rides are "Cool, BUTT Ugly"

  .... I too see no value  ,

what I can't quite wrap my mind around...

How , it gets around the BATF,  the two shot one trigger pull  :-\

Yep.  Sorry Rev, You missed the point.

Yepper.  That be one of those "Cool Butt Ugly" creations that only come around every so often.  It's true purpose is unknown.  The "Why" is also a mystery.  I can't for the life of me, fathom Standard dumping design and manufacturing funds into something so ........ STUPID.

I also don't understand a BATFE "get around."  Strange.

I don’t see the value. Sorry.

I don't see the point. As Coffin said, why commit time, energy, and capitol to something this far removed from the fine shotguns and single action revolvers they are known for.

My point  ;D

I wonder , along with CNC machines etc. Standard acquired the weird  Doug Donnelly  imagination  ???

In the realm of  " you could not give me one "   I:E:  the  USPA JIP Gun

This thing could come home ........ "if"  you gave it to me and paid me to keep it !

I would require a sign contract and regularly royalties for the duration ....

In an accompanying test video ....they asked the same question  2 shots one trigger pull  ....all that was said was the gun was submitted to the BATF and they approved it.... go figure

as for the CCW value ....aside from a belly gun to 3 yards range at best  , the trigger guard screams  SNAG o MATIC.

Sorry Major,

I take it that you meant that it was the coolest of the butt ugly types. On that we might agree. Clearly Standard didn't disinfect the USFA marines to kill off any leftover terrible ideas.

So the trigger pull is SOOOOO bad you need 2 fingers to get it to go bang? If I want something with that hard of a trigger pull, I'll just get a Russian Nagant.

Heard about that one a while back, but didn't know (or forgot) that it was from Standard.  Perhaps they are trying to one-up USFA buy showing that they can build both weirdo huh? guns and nice single actions at the same time and remain afloat.

That concern is mentioned and addressed in the Gun test video.
Seems the striker spring is so heavy because if made lighter, it will not have reliable firing of both rounds.
Another, outcome is once fired the twin bullets themselves keyhole beyond 3 yards or so....
not mention the wide spread of follow up shots.

They call it the S333 ...  so named because Standard believes  " a defensive gun use, involves no more than three shots within three seconds at no more than three yards. "   ::)

S333 Thunderstruck   Dumbstruck is more to the point.....

It appears to me that high quality guns have a very small market and odd to the point of near uselessness guns will still find a buyer. So many comments about new guns being an assembled kit ready to be refitted and parts replaced confirm this. When we start buying quality that lasts and rejecting poorly designed or manufactured products I think we will better served. Nothing in my experience indicates that will happen.

Why on God's green eaeth would a company renowned for its fine single actiond put out such a useless firearm as this ridiculous hunk of metal? Unbelieveable!!

When society accepts  a strategy of deliberately ensuring that the current version of a given product will become out of date , obsolete or useless, we are doomed.

It is a ploy that guaranteed consumers will seek replacements in the future.

After it runs out of ammo, I wonder if the "brass knuckle" gizmo snaps out of the frame so you can beat on someone with it?

If I am not mistaken, Standard is part of Galazan.  They made a 4 barrel pump 12 gauge not long back.

Ah no, My Dear Coffin

it will not pass, I can feed the desire with more images....,

Some of these are actual props
Some are 3-d Printed
some are 3-D digital "renderings" ie  pictures....

somehow, there are insane inspired people out there with more time and money than sense
making shit stuff props out of airsoft toys, denix toys, clay, plastic, metal ... and the interwebs just seem to offer a feeding frenzy!
Most, I think are Fantasy and SF freaks fans and the like. When i was young I had enough denaro to fund the monthly
"Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction" ( as well as Shooting Times and Guns and Ammor) but that was about it!

No money to waste on trying to build "props" Eating and rent were more important
and there weren't that many  SciFi conventions ....

Altho I did  fund a home-sewn kilt and made my own Dagger and Bowie and  Dirk and Sgein Dugbh out of files and bar stock... and a caplock rifle... and a hawk... and ...
went to Feast of The Hunters Moon, and some Rondys , and ... ..
Oh....

Anyway here is some more eye candy.

I am going to preface this post, by saying that I like a challenge. That out of the way, I was asked to make a holster for the doubleshot Thunderstruck. Going to sit down with the man tomorrow, to discuss his wants. I have on numerous occasions, have said that I can make a holster for any gun.

Time to see if that is true.

I just don't see any of these--the monstrosity from Standard or even the fantasy guns--taking the place of Hillberg's COP 357 derringer.

These things were like a Mossberg Brownie that grew up, or a sawed-off Lancaster.  Striker-fired DA, 4 shots, and at one time custom-made speedloaders were actually available (from a guy in Nevada IIRC).   Weight was around 28-30 ounces, and nicely balanced for use as a skull-cracker.  Carried nicely in a coat pocket too.

I had one for a while, it was actually much better than the press reports would have you believe.  Infinitely better than the High Standard derringer it replaced.

Edited to add: I think, since it was used in Blade Runner, it would qualify for the Space Aliens Shooting Society.

Edited again to ask, "Why does everyone want to shoot Aliens?  Are we running out of Cowboys??"

Probably,  Someone somewhere has their panties in a wad over it....

I mean with " Indigenous persons" , all upset there no "Cowboy's VS Indians or redskins any more

Employee's of the Bovine industry & " Indigenous persons" or or First Nations

and now it is no longer illegals'  or  illegal aliens  its  "undocumented" persons

But alas the thread drifts ....
The subject is  hair brain butt ugly designs or those so abstract they come full circle to cool  I:E Steam punks  ;D
