Locations of examples of "mint" ORIGINAL 1860 Spencers?
« on: August 20, 2018, 07:22:15 AM »
Hello, everyone:

Aside from the "credits" in Marcot, would those of you that know of examples of what appear to be mint condition 1860 Spencers please share how I might be able to communicate with the owners, please?

From limited research and contact, I have seen and been fortunate to handle and own other examples of mint, unissued Civil War era Maynards, Smiths, etc, but not "100% mint" Spencers.  Maybe some reached Bannermans.

Thanks for any comments.

That's going to be a tough hunt! Most of the mint M-1860s I have seen were refinished at Springfield after the war. If it's mint and has an ESA cartouche, it was refinished. Two Flints has good advice. I would add CSArms in Upperville, Va. as a place to keep an eye on. The owner is well connected and often gets really nice stuff. (Disclaimer, I am just a customer there.)
