The Nettleton model I believe is made by Pietta, the 7th Cavalry is made by Uberti. So sort of the same but different.

BROW / Re: Shiloh Sharps

My Shiloh Sharps only took about a week to get. I bought it used on Guns International. It is a Business Rifle chambered for the 50 2-1/2 Sharps Straight cartridge. As an early Business Rifle it is very plain with a round 28 "barrel, CC frame, plain wood, with the military butt.

With a 470g soft cast bullet over 90g of 1.5F Olde Eynsford, it kicks so bad setting at a shooting bench I can't handle it. Much easier on the shoulder and face (smile) off-hand or over crossed sticks, my preferred way to shoot it.

I had a 10' gong built by a welder who said it would stand up to anything. The "Big Fifty" knocks it "arse over teakettle" out to 100 yards. Gonna have to find a really durable gong to take to the desert as the public range where I shoot only allows paper. Hearing a gong ring is so much more satisfying than looking through binoculars for a hole in a paper target.

USFA CSS / Re: Looking for Info on an inherited USFA

Whoever was responsible they turned it from being in the original China Camp finish (which was no finish at all) into a proper Colt patterned CC and blued single action revolver. And it today's inflated market I'd say it's worth quit a bit of money.

To me it would be worth even more as it belonged to your father and he left it to you. Priceless!

If you like it, buy it. And of course, shoot it with black powder cartridges.

7th cav revolver with different inspector stamps.  Nothing wrong with that.

I suspect this is a custom gun, originally a China Camp that was sent to Turnbull for case hardening and bluing. Whether it was sent by the USFA factory as a custom order or sent by the customer after purchasing as an original China Camp I haven't a clue. That would be my guess.

I suppose my interest started with TV and radio Westerns.  My grandfather and I used to listen to Gunsmoke on the radio before we had a TV.  He also had a Colt SA 38-40 that he carried on his truck in the 1930's.  He or my Dad held it and I pulled the trigger when I was 3 or 4 (49 or 50} and I have been addicted to them ever since.  I still have it and a NRA Centennial .45 SA that I received as a college graduation gift in 72.  I have several others and have traded lots of guns over the years, but those 2 are still with me.  My first open top was a 4 screw 1860 Army I traded for in the mid 60's it had all the finish buffed off, but it was a neat old gun with an untold history.

Gun Reviews / Cimarron Nettleton?

Other than the differing inspector mark on this Cimarron offering is there anything else special on this? There is on available locally, beautiful sixgun. I do like the BP frame. Kind of a unique marketing tactic for a gun, I thought. But otherwise, still a sixgun more usable than collectible?
