Thanks Will!
I never thought of Brewers Pitch!

Unfortunately, My Little Grey cells continue to entertain such an idea. After all if the hollywierd amoroers can make this

https://www.imfdb.org/images/6/63/Firefly_Gun_7.JPG

Out of a taurus model 85

A paterson cant be that hard, right?

If we look here
https://armourersbench.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/us1304-1.png

And here
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3a/Patersonbdsml.jpg

And here

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f2/Colt_Paterson.jpg/1000px-Colt_Paterson.jpg

We can see that the basic shape of the patterson barrel and frame are very similar to an 1851.

I would take  a brass 1851
modify the trigger guard/grip frame by removing the guard and adding a sloped piece to replicate the patterson lines
Modify the back gripstrap similarly
Make a new wooden grip to match.

One can make a drop down trigger… as the hammer is cocked, the trigger assembly moves backwards and
The folded trigger would clear a “stop “ and drop down.

It is admitadly fragile, but the internals remian the stock 1851, and the only mods are to the trigger and the gripframe.
Visual similarity is the key. Replicating the complex patterson frame, watertable, and internals is not necessary.

If I ever get to it, I have a relic Colt Lightning complete frame and barrel, that I am cogitating fitting S&W model 10 cylinder and internals into.

This is what happens when you let a computer nerd have a lathe, milling machine, wire welder, and gas brazing rig….

Wait till I show you my plans for a Mauser ‘95 fitted with a 458 socum barrel chambered for a rimless .45 BP round of my own design.
I will call him Thumper. Basically a bolt action  rimless BP 45-70. With APP it should be as easy as a smokeless rifle. Manlicher stock. Butterknife bolt handle. Part octogon barrel if i have enough meat on it .

Take that greenhouse project! ( from my postin re the trials and tribulations of growing veggies).

Prf not insane, but close

I used to hear that if APP goes bad, it develops a rank smell.  But it smells pretty rank to me all the time, so I'm not sure how I would tell.  :)

Anyway, back to the LGS tomorrow and am gonna pick up a rather sad Mossberg 500, another of those mud-puppies I can't resist.
Let us know your plans!
Those mossbergs are trick, one can go retro aka trench gun look alike, or modernisch with a plastick pistol grip stock, or super modern like this

https://1j9e7a.a2cdn1.secureserver.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Mossberg-Combo-100-no-red-1200x578.png

And in the mossy one can add a little rubber block dealy and shoot those cute little mini shotshells. I can get
13 in my mossy …

Oh and I finally broke down and spent money! Got some pietta model p 1873’s and an IAI M1 carbine, almost new.
Somehow they dont seem to go tegether… unless… WW2 wilder bunch?
More on that crap later…

Strange yummy chicken suages from target for me! Gluten free, egg free, dairy free, soy freee…..

And coffee. Lots and lots of strong black coffee. Well not so black anymore, the acid is getting to me.

And we got some rain! The grewt southwest is entering a pattern “similar to, but not the same, and somewhat backwards” of the classic
El Nino, and it has the weather guessers completely confused. Got the high pressure and low pressure zones reversed.

Flooding and tornados (unheard of ) in the eastern NM plains, into Tejas,
(Texas for the spanish impaired) and flooding all over from Tejas northeast into the middle america regions.

We will see what the gulf hurricanes do this year!

The great rebuild of the 30 year old back deck is nearly complete. With a small Harbor Freight plastic and aluminum greenhouse for
SWMBO to safely do her veggy prijects in, away from the bugs, lizards, critters, etc that are trying to eat her and our veggies.

Lost all my plants to cut worms one year.  Lost the taters to rabbits and squirrels. Lost what was left to the lizards and field mice.

Now the plants are in plant jail. Greenhouse, hardware cloth, aluminum widown screen , and garden shade cloth, cut thermometer says
100 deg without shade in there. Also Diatameceous Earth. Lots of it. Finally found out

“ In our garden we sprinkle diatomaceous earth around the plants that are coming up from seed. We use inverted paper cups with the bottoms cut out for cutworm barriers around small transplants along with diatomaceous earth. Cutworms do their damage at night and hide in the dark during the day”

And I am no longer allowed to water. Somehow I do . Either too much or too little. Even with a little watering system….

Oh and I am not allowed to touch plants without rubber gloves. My skin oil kills em….

More incentive for Mrs Marvel to get moving . Walking is the best PT for knee replacements!

Yhs
Prof whatever

Sportsmans warehouse regularly advertises “stuff” on their interactive website as available in specific stores, yet
When one arrives one finds it has vaporized. Calling them (and lowes or home depot) is useless as no one answers the phone anymore.

I spent nearly two hours weekend before last waiting for an idiot studying to be a moron
Gun counter employee since primers all used to be behind the counter. He (lone employee) was too busy trying to puzzle
Out and fill in 2 purchase forms. SOB would neither make eye contact nor pause to answer a question to anyone.
Lil sob kept runing to the back room to chat consult with someone eles.  No large pistol to be had, whilst the web site stil shows them available in that store…. No percussion caps either, nor any loose sub powder. Only pellets.
I had gotten a LOT of black mz and 777 from them years ago before covid.
Now they are , as Mrs Marvel says, “tits on a boar” … aka utterly useless.
I am  finally giving up on them entirely.

I will try cabellas, the only other big place. If i fail there i will order online as Coffin suggested in my other complaing thread lol.

Welcome to the 21st century, where everything is done via the WEB
And the WEB always breaks, cuz the kids dont know how to code or test.

I Think I will go buy myself a printing press, a wagon, and some mules….
And a field piece.
Take the traveling apothecary show on the road and add Cloud Seeding via artillary.
It worked for Capt. George Baylor didnt it?

Ohhhhh

Topic is shelf life of app
My black mz from the now pathetic sportsman warehouse is still good after… ummm
10 years?

As others have said, just bust it up. As a citric powder based propellat, it has a tendency to clump, but
Stirring up or gentle grinding with a wooden pestle seems to do the trick for me.

 :) Hey Perfesser  ;)

I forgot to make suggestion ... You might just skip hitching up the mobile apothecary and resort to (GASP!!), Mail Order.  Whilst you get stuck with HazMat (sometimes) oft the Big Box guys will sell and ship without the dreaded HazMat.  Of late I have seen Caps and Primers available from Midway and Cabellas.  Perhaps worth checking out  8)
