Plainsman loads using Triple 7 in 45-70 with 350 gr bullets
Sedalia Dave:
Having never used T7 with filler, what would be a good load for a 45-70 with a 350 gr bullet.

Well, to be perfectly honest, I have never used Triple Seven with a filler either. I fact I have no liking for T-7 at all. For the 45-70, I have a Plainsman shooting partner who loads with a 454 round Ball. Ball weight was 150Gr. Very pleasant load to shoot.
My personal loading for Plainsman has been my 38-55, full case APP and 90Gr .380 EPP UG - 36 Bullet. Very pleasant indeed.
You will find, felt recoil, and recoil in general is more a product of the weight of the Projectile than the actual powder charge.
Understanding, none of this missive actually. addresses your original question, nor provides any help in your quest. However, it's Saturday Morning. It's some dam'd cold out there, I'm not shooting, I'm a mite bored so here I am. You may wish to ignore this missive, as I know I would, but if you're reading this part, it's too late anyway. Coffee is hot however. Enjoy.

Can't help with the T7 and 350 gr. bullet but about 60 grains of 3F and the 500 gr. Govt. bullet shoots very well in my 1884 Trapdoor.

hellgate:
Dave,
Is this for a rifle or carbine? I only have worked up loads for the carbine. I have used 50 gr FFg Goex and a 385gr Lyman bullet in Plainsman matches. Another load was 50 gr APP/Black MZ under a 1/2" 45 cal fiber filler wad and a BP lubed collar button bult (150gr). The collar button shot 6-7" higher@50 yds than the 385gr bullet.

I have a Hodgon "Cowboy Action" data book. It lists specific charge VOLUMES for the 45-70, but not for a 350 grain bullet. It states in the text that the loads were developed by loading the powder to the base of the bullet, no airspace, and no compression. "High pressure may result by compressing this powder". It also says, no wads or fillers should be used with Triple Seven loads.
For reference, the 405 grain bullet load is 60 grains ffg, 1260fps.
Hope this is helpful, B.N. Scotty
