1858 Nipple Wrench
« on: July 30, 2011, 05:59:01 AM »
I have a new Uberti 1858 S/S New Army Cap and Ball revolver. I have  two of the three Ted Cash Ratchet Nipple Tools and a Traditions tool. I am assuming that the reason the traditiions tool is a piece of crap is because it its fit all product. Does any know of a propery fitting Nipple Tool for the 1858,  which doen't require me to  inside radius out the the nipple well?

Thanks,
Old Overholt Rye

Howdy Ashlyngr-Quess by the lack of any response to your post there may be no 'quality' nipple wrench of your request. Wish someone 'would' make available 'proper' fitting wrenchs for the various size nipples found on current production cab and balls. Maybe they are out there, but I haven't seen them. Most of what I've seen are a one size fits all, which results in a sloppy fit. I use an old unknown brand I bought with my first c&b way back in '72 which isn't to bad a fit, but would like ones of tighter fit. Shoot both Colt and Remington revolvers, would buy two or three if needed to make the fit tight in the various sizes of nipples found on my guns.  Agree the Traditions are junk. Yers, CC

I have several...mostly older ones..I can't recall who made them, but not from any of the "newer" companys that come to mind.
Last year I added another wrench to my lineup....this one from Dixie Gun Works. It seems well made and fits all my Italian-made Army size pistols cones.

The best one I had was one of the L shaped screwdriver + nipple wrench tools.  I think it is a period design and did not fit my Remington as purchased.  I simply turned the nipple wrench shaft portion down on a lathe so that it fit inside the nipple recess.
