Update for the crew.  Had a gunsmith check out the New Vaquero.  The problem is not with the hammer or the hammer spring (he put the original hammer back in and replaced the spring -- and it still would not fire on one chamber.)  In his opinion, the cylinder is out of time.  Looks like it is going back to Ruger.

While scanning through Gunbroker for a possible trapdoor purchase, I ran across the Browning 78 in .45-70, a Highwall clone.  I have a Browning-Miroku 1895  in .30-40 that I am happy with.  Wondering if the 1883 clones are just as good.  It has a 24 inch barrel which might wrok well for my Cody Dixon rifle.   I have been using a Sharps, but find the loading process too slow to be competitive, even against trapdoors.  Thinking maybe moving the Sharps over to the long range bench.

Meet a fellow at the range that is a collector of Evens fire arms. He had three with him, a rifle, carbine and an octagon barrel sporting rifle. He gets his ammo from a company in Colorado Spring and allowed me to shoot one of my choice. I tried the carbine and found it to work well. Hit 4” chicken plates at twenty five yards every time. These rifles hold a lot of cartridges in a rotating magazine in the butt. And the hammer spur is on the bottom of the lever. Weird design by todays thinking that worked well at that early day of repeating arms.

I've had good results with handsprings made from piano wire. This one is .028 or .032, I believe. I just flatten the end and install it in the same groove as the original flat spring. I've never had a piano wire spring fail.



If I break a bolt spring, I replace that with one made of .050 piano wire. it's tough stuff to bend but when the job is done, they are more reliable.



Sorry I don't have photos of Remington parts with them but the methods are the same.

MT, I found it by stumbling around on the internet. This is called Liquid Sliver and it will plate a clean copper based alloy fairly well. The metal you want to plate should be very well polished then wash with soap and water. Don’t handle with bare hands, cotton gloves worked well for me.

The Plum Creek Shooting Society shoots the 1st weekend of every month, so the July match always celebrates the 4th.  I have worn this shirt almost every year since I got it in Mexico in 1968 (the tag says Made in San Francisco!).  I actually still have the matching pants which are much less faded since I haven't been able to fit into them since around '80 or '85  ;D  This was the first match to shoot my engraved conversions in a few years because the triggers got too light, but just got them worked on.

It was the hand spring, got her to work stops at lthe  loading notch weak but stops.  Looking at all my Colt SAA 1873 type the springs are all different.  Does anyone know what the hand spring S/B and post a picture of it.

I actually am very glad they have the slightly beefier purpose built cylinders.  Less chance of a notch "blow out" happening.

Right, but they made ONE 1861 Type 2 Richards, as shown in McDowell's book.  

Dave Anderson did produce Type 1's as Adler's book shows and they were the BOMB.
ASM though AFF provided his raw parts. There also a very fine SAA produced, this raised the notice & ire of COLT and lawsuit was imposed. This and Dave's personal domestic issue was the death nell for American Frontier Firearms.

Adler says the sale of ASM to AWA in 2000 was why he lost his parts supply.  Probably a combination of things.

If the gun cocks and locks up fine, I wouldn't mess with the hand.  It sounds like your hand spring is still too weak.
