I found it works pretty darn good in all kinds of reduced velocity loads for rifles.
Hodgdon says you can fill the case with trail boss, leaving room for bullet seating, and that's the Maximum load. Back off from whatever that weight is by 70% (multiply by .7) and that is your starting load.
For my 165 Grain lead bullet that was 18.7 grains for a 30/06
case full and so 70% was 13.0 grains. (12.9) from a 2.8 cc Lee Dipper.
However, I've read of others using even lighter loads, so I started with 11.5 grains with the 165 grain HT bullet. (2.5cc)
I am very pleased with the light recoil and consistency and with 11.5 grains of Trail Boss for a 30-06
This with a .311 165 Grain RNFP Hi Teck from Missouri Bullet Co.
I found 12.9 grains same bullet works well also for a 30-06.
Lee Dipper TRAIL BOSS Calculated to:
0.3 1.4 grains 1.38121547
0.5 2.3 grains 2.302025783
0.7 3.2 grains 3.222836096
1 4.6 grains 4.604051565
1.3 6.0 grains 5.985267035
1.6 7.4 grains 7.366482505
1.9 8.7 grains 8.747697974
2.2 10.1 grains 10.12891344
2.5 11.5 grains 11.51012891
2.8 12.9 grains 12.89134438
3.1 14.3 grains 14.27255985

I use 13.0 grains in .45-70, .45-60, .50-70, .30 Army, .30-06, and .303 British. Pretty versatile load.
-
I can't recall the load I settled upon for loading .303 cartridges (... I'd have to pry my lazy butt from the chair and go downstairs to look it up ...) but was certainly impressed with the consistency ... although the low velocity required the 300 yard setting to hit point of aim at 100 yards.
-
I use 13 grains also in my 303 with a 167 Grain Hi-tech coated bullet

As I recall from chronograph testing TrailBoss, along with 5744, Unique and 2400, T.B. had the least consistent velocities. Didn't seem to male a huge difference in accuracy.(at 50 yards) TrailBoss does have the advantage that it would be virtually impossible to double charge a case. There is a highlighted thread from Colonel Drydock on the subject that has 29,000+views, lots of good information!

::) Humpff :P
I don't like nor use Trail Boss for anything. So There. ;D

I enjoy my Milsurps without getting beat up
The other advantage is I can shoot at my home gallery (bullet traps) with good conscience the round will not escape my acreage.

Same here, damn stuff filled the apartment with floating mini-gray donuts. never know how much went into the case.

Wow! I've never had any problems with that. In fact, in my experience at least, it meters better than just about any powder I've used.
-
Nor I .... course I don't load at progressive press speeds
-
I use it for .308, 38 special, 38-55, .44-40, .45 Colt and .45-70 never had a problem through my Dillon measures. ;D

Sweet load for 308 isn't it ...I use 11.5 grains

??? Humpff ???
Whom keeps sticking these "Banner Ads" in the middle of the Threads?? Rude and Obnoxious even if it does help pay the bills.
-
banner ads ?
-
banner ads ?
Yeah, I'm not seeing them.

banner ads ?
Look at the post up above in this thread from yesterday (4/23) at 3:16pm (that's what time it says for me here in Texas). Right now it is a "blank" post. I asked the Marshall and he said there are ads but you don't see them with an ad-blocker (which I have).
-
??? I see NADA
-
Hi
That explains things, this is written on a work computer (at home) so I don't see the banner ads for Dillon presses etc. I do see them on my home computer which Mr. Gates apparently won't let me see things without ads.
