Title: February frost calls for fresh coffee, and a new thread
Post by: Major 2 on February 01, 2022, 12:04:56 AM
Welcome to the second Month of 2022  :)

Have to break in a new Doc. office today, (just for biannual re-up on check & med's)
My new Medicare plan for 2022 required a change in provider.

Frankly I'm glad, the prior office kept passing me around the office
Three different female PA's, in the last year and a half.  ::)

Wife has that problem, I solved mine the same way you did, keep nagging her.

Had a cardio appointment but do to a rash decision we cancelled for a couple weeks since it was just a check.  My rash, think I have it figured out but we'll see, full report later. ::)

I’m sure it’s nothing a little penicillin won’t fix.  ::)

Afternoon all.

Got home to Missoula around 12:30am. Had just enough time to shower, drink a glass of water and lay down before it was time to get up for work. And another early-up tomorrow.

Got the news back on my CBP application. “Thanks for applying, try again later.” I attribute it to Providence, I suppose. So now the Mrs. and I are figuring out our next steps in life.

Bit of ice and sn** here, but no blizzard.... yet. used some near boiling water to un-freeze the car door, got to work and-no mail. Amazon made it in with some packages but the mail processing plant is shut down. So, an early day.

Ha! Like minds ...I thought the same thing...Good on you PE  :)

So far, the new Dr. is to my liking....
Not that I'm bigoted, but he is a HE, a real MD (not a PA) maybe in his mid-sixties, a bit portly, and AMERICAN.
I'm comfortable with that combination

I used to love when it got cold---er, on the rare occasions here we'd get a hard freeze.
We hadn't seen one of those since 2012, and then only a few hours near morning.
Then last Sat. & Sunday we reach that and a dip below....
I slept with electric blanket, and pretty much wrapped up in it part most of the day  ::)

When I was working on "Gods & Generals" in Maryland (2001) I saw and felt single digits.
and actually, this flatlander was fricking FREEZING.
Leather Bomber jacket & flannel shirt, Balaclava, wool gloves, but my shoes were NOT up to the task.

So, when you guys say -8 snow and ICE, I feel for you.
It reached 82° briefly around 2: ish it's now, 78°, Sat & Sun. we will see low 50's.
Not rubbing it in, just saying I don't like it COLD anymore, now that I'm..... well..... OLD! :(

Evening all.

Currently in Great Falls for the monthly exodus. The weather was… conflicting. I drive over yesterday in blowing snow and freezimg fog, temps in the low single digits. This morning it was 21, and climbed to 45. Though the warmth was somewhat negated by the wind, which same being factored for brings the temperature down to 0. More of the same tomorrow.

Took the dog out and found the weather dreary, gray & misting.
I'm guessing we'll have more people coming into the Museum to get out of the mess.
It will be a long day too, in at 10A. then we have an extra event in the auditorium 6-9 PM scheduled.

Bran Flakes for breakfast, and that all in all is about as exciting as it gets today,  :-\

Kinda sorta keeps things REGULAR, it's not an all the time thing, but I like it especially with Blue Berrys.
But ran out Blue Berrys yesterday. :(  and the last of the Bran this morning, so it's back to corn flakes tomorrow, I guess.

Tonight's extra event in the auditorium 6-9 PM postponed to next Saturday.
I did give an 18-member, Eagle Scout troop a tour this morning.

Sunday February 20th, marks the 100th Birthday of a WW 2 Veteran,
We are proud to be planning and hosting his B-day Party at the museum.
Some 25 Family & friends are to attend, and we have Olive Garden catering.
We will be providing an honor guard and 14-piece big band Orchestra.
The Family has requested we provide a facsimile (original from our collection) of his uniform, I'm working on that, to assemble the correct unit patches.

I am putting on a Dutch Oven Gathering the third weekend in September at Rock Creek Station State Historical Park in SE Nebraska. The reason this spot was chosen was I am a volunteer there and have been since the late 90's and have a very good relationship with them.
Also not quite but almost dead center of the country, less than 100 miles if I remember correct.

N 40.11123 W 97.05854

Also we are allowed to have an actual fire in a hole on the ground and the park will provide us with plenty of wood.
Then there is the History down there, that is where Bill Hickok killed Dave McCandless in the spring of 1861 starting his legend.
If interested join this group where we will discuss the agenda. It don't matter if you are new or been doing this for years don't be afraid to come down and demo what you can do. Someone interested it just starting out may relate better to you than some of us with 30 years or more doing more fancy things.

Weather is currently 65 and sunny, with a light breeze from the bay. I’m not sure how to process this weather in February. I got too used to Montana. Then again, I do prefer MT in general.  Myself and the Mrs are here for the Yellow Ribbon conference, on Uncle Sam’s dime. We leave tomorrow.

not much into Pro Gridiron anyway though a good Collage game can be cool....
Whatever last interest I might have had went south over whole one knee protests BS.
But that said, we are having a SB party at the Museum, and show the game on the 120" screen.
It's a good excuse as any to throw a members get together.

Safely back in MT, though the CA weather seems to be trying to follow. It’s 45 today, though it did dump a half inch of white last night.

Regarding the sports ball doings on Sunday, the o Lu reason I knew it was happening was because I had to go clean a grease trap at a local sports bar before the game. I never get obligated to watch fat dudes in spandex fight over a $10 toy. Lord knows they can all afford their own at Target. But I digress.

Major excitement, I was on the receiving end of at least 3 errant SHOTS!

Two young fellows were target shooting on their property about 350 yards to my west, three (at least) hit my home. One took out the front bay window glass, the other two are in the siding and wall, thought did not penetrate through the insulation or drywall.
The Bay window is toast though, I called the Sheriff, and they found the Suspects and they admitted they were Target practicing with 9MM & 40 Semi Autos.
It was not a malicious intent, and the Sheriff brought the two over to apologize and make restitution
(To be determined, won't be inexpensive, window is about $3500)

Thank you !

Indeed, it could have been very bad, the bullet had to cross the vacant woods across the street, not mention my street (where it could have hit a passing car) travel 120 yards back to my house
and penetrate my living room.
I found the spent 9mm bullets, Sheriff took that as evidence. At this point the Sheriff is cool, the fellows were not arrested, and he brought them around to sincerely apologias.
I was also cool & calm; I'll call insurance tomorrow to replace the window.
IF, all is well, I won't press charges, if they pay damages (they said they would in the present of the Sheriff) and I have case number.

I think in this case a mild flogging might also be in order along with a mandatory shooting safety class.

Turns out they were shooting both 9mm and a 40 cal.
The one spent bullet I found on the inside window seat was FMJ.
The jacket was separated from the lead pill I also found about a foot to the right.
It had hit the back of the couch and bounced back out.
The other two are embedded in the walls.

I'm calling today for estimates, I am guessing with labor replacing the window will be north of $3500
Repairs to the walls, maybe $400 mostly labor I'd think.
I have State Farm, I'll see what they suggest.

I don't know what if any charges will result.

Coffee and tea are hot.

Good to hear nobody was hurt. I think a trip to the range with safety training should happen.

'Tis -8 and cloudy. "Windy. Not as cold. Mostly cloudy. Snow showers in the afternoon. Some blowing and drifting snow in the afternoon. Snow accumulation up to 1 inch. Highs in the lower 30s. South wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts to around 45 mph in the afternoon. Chance of snow 90 percent. Lowest wind chill readings to 20 below zero in the morning."

Reckless endangerment comes to mind for charges. ::)

25 CFR § 11.401 - Recklessly endangering another person.

A person commits a misdemeanor if he or she recklessly engages in conduct which places or may place another person in danger of death or serious bodily injury. Recklessness and danger shall be presumed where a person knowingly points a firearm at or in the direction of another person, whether or not the actor believed the firearm to be loaded.

No malicious intent was involved (they were target shooting which is legal) determined by the investigating Sheriff Sarg. (However, charges can be brought later)

At this point, I have two estimates' next week, I will present the cost to the Perps...
I HOPE it can be resolved with them paying damages.

worst case...
Shooting Into an Occupied Dwelling
In Florida, if you shoot or throw a “deadly missile” into a building, vehicle or vessel with wanton or malicious intent, you could be facing up to 15 years in prison and a fine of $10,000..
This is true even if absolutely no one was injured as a result of your actions.

Possible Defenses
There are a host of possible defenses in these cases. Prosecutors will sometimes try to use the severity of the charge to strong-arm defendants into pleading guilty to a lesser but still-serious offense. This is not a decision that should be taken lightly. Recognize that there could be an effective way to have the charges significantly reduced or dismissed altogether. Some possible defense strategies may include:

Vehicle was not occupied;  N/A
Lack of sufficient evidence to identify the object; (We have the bullet)
Object was not one that could have produced great bodily harm or death; BULLET !
The shooting, projection or throwing was accidental;
There was no wanton or malicious intention;

Not enough evidence defendant was the one to throw, shoot or project the object. They admit and were in the act of shooting when the Sheriff arrived and saw them !

Evening all.

I put in a good 10.5 hours at the old grindstone today, starting at 5:30. I’ll take that over the 4 hour days I was getting the past two months. Makes bills easier.

Weather here was oddly warm, with a high of 50 degrees.  That’s supposed to stay the same until Monday, at which time it is forecast to drop below zero again. It’s been nice while it’s lasted though.

64 here, couldn't get in earlier on any device.  Got a couple bags of chicken legs from the Food Bank so Rita is cooking them to freeze and seal and have microwave food later.   Decided to make batter and back, oven fried or what ever they call it.  Never made it before so she had me look it up. ::)  (She didn't like my turn the oven between 350 and 425 and bake till done so I looked at a couple dozen because I don't trust net recipe.   Oven between 375 and 425, some had no temp but all looked like the same recipe plagiarized.

I spend a lot of time helping people figure out why their pinned or what ever recipe failed.   Most baking quick breads and involves leavening, calling for baking soda when they need baking powder or forgetting to put self rising on the flour and just putting flower, shit don't leaven itself. :P

The honor guard was provided by the USN. The flag was folded and presented to him.

The old gent could walk; however, we provided the wheeled chair so he could comfortably tour the Museum.

I apologize, I left the photo taking to one of the museum volunteers, I was disappointed.

Guess this has been too much, so I’ll go back to sleep now!

Will probably take the Missus to her favorite mall before we hit the road tomorrow as she missed out on 2 days of attack shopping. I did score 1,000 CCI LPPs so it was a good trip for me.

Me ?  I was up and out to scout out my assigned spot for Display on downtown main street.
I wanted to know in advance where I could unload, then park...
Then turned the trip into an excuse to stop by the frendly LGS.

Almost had a guy buying one of my holsters.
He bought a Heritage Rough Rider Bar Keeper, was looking to get a holster too.
I had one that fit it like it was made for it (it wasn't)... He's an older guy with his grandson (I assumed) with him.
Any he looked at several different guns before he decided on the 22Cal Revolver.
The thing that disturbed me as he kept turning the pieces in his hand to look them over and swept just about everyone including his grandson ::)  WHO finally said "watch it stepping back and away (kid was about 11-12)"

Kid was more on the ball, than gramps!  Oh well! they left with the Heritage but didn't buy my holster.
