The proper grips would be checkered, Round butt Magnas with the diamond around the grip screw, the disc should be blued steel,S&W stopped using the discs sometime in the early 2000's If memory serves me.Best bet would be to find a set of badly worn or damaged grips at a gun show and steal the disc from that.

I have taken the new to me 103 year old Smith M1917 for an outing at my humble home gallery.
I set up my Chrono to test of my home rolled rounds.

I have some Evil Roy Powder Inc. made 45 APC I got several years ago, I do not know what the powder or charge is
They are cast 230 grain bullets , beyond that a mystery... @ 10 yards I was shooting 3.5 inch a bit right of POA.

My loading was more to my likening out of the  revolver I used SNS hi-tech coated 230 grain bullets ( thanks to John Saffern who gave them to me  :) )
I started with 4.2 grains of Titegroup which shot @ 719 FPS  and consistent + or - 7 FPS
I also noticed my group spread was tighter @ 2.5
I have worked up tp 4.4 grains TG zipping along @ 780 FPS but groups opened some ( maybe just me   :-\ )

I have not tried my loads in any of my 1911's yet , but I have used the Evil Roy stuff in my Cimarron and it was acceptable at
SASS wild bunch target range...Wild Bunch shoots went belly up in my area.

I'm hoping to attend a *BAMM match* , I think the M1917 will be my go to . ( however my 1911 will be along too)

*BANN Match* would be road trip to NC hooking up with Baltimore Ed's shooting bunch ...if all goes well, and the creek don't rise

 :)  Aw Crapola   ;)

The Perfesser beat me to it.  When folks first started showing up with "Red" bullets I was want to chide them about "Shooting Lipsticks."  Now, however, I find myself shooting lipsticks as they are/were all I could find.  With APP, Lipstick is just fine.

Hello, my name is Kent and I’m a gunaholic.
That must be because at a garage sale I was offered a 30-06 that I don’t need but bought anyways. It’s a standard Winchester model 70 made in 1947 with a Pachmyer tip over scope base. The gun is in a used but well cared for condition. A solvent socked patch came out with no color and every piece is as clean as can be. Stock has small dings and a few light scratches but at 74 years old is still ready to hunt!

Eat up with it ...again , there is no cure  :)

This one followed me home ,  the PO had opted to trade it for a Hellcat (great gun but in this case  in my opinion he traded down )
It was as NIB and comes with 6 mags  ;D ( 3 extra over OEM packaging )

Springfield Armory EMP 9MM , I like the 1911 platform and was looking for an enhanced model to add to my armory which includes ,  My Ithaca , Springfield Armory Milspec and my Cimarron (photo)  ....
I was about to purchase a new Rock Island Armory 1911-A1 FS Tactical .45 ACP, when this was consigned at my LGS.

PO was asking more for it than the posted retail on the Rock Island ( totally understandable )
  I made a offer and he accepted .  :)
So I got the Springfield Armory  instead

EDIT Made this holster for it for trail work

I have shot it and it is a sweet shooter  :)
