I recently got a 5" nickel Schofield and had an itch to balance it with an 8" Richard's in .44 Colt. I have Truth and Justice, my matched pair of 5.5" barreled Anderson type I conversions in .44 Colt but pairing one of them with the Schofield seemed "off".  Found a NIB Cimarron Type II IN .44 with an 8" barrel on GB FOR $570!  Grabbed it. With shipping tax and insurance it came to $700 which is still good.  Hopefully it will be here in time for me to do my 10 day Commiefornia jail and takeit to my annual match on the 15th.

HAHA! Thanks.  For Me, the 1860 Richards Type I and Type II are the classic revolver of the Early West.  The pair of Anderson 1860 conversions I have are cool, but I do love an 8" barrel.

I like a "Crossfire Trail" line up: An Open Top Colt in a cross draw and, Schofield in a strong side draw.

I actually asked them the to send it Priority express (I'm paying extra) so I have it in time to do my 10 day and pick it up.  I have a 5 day annual match (Peaceful's End of Track at Railroad Flat, CA) starting the 15th that I want to use it at. ordered it in .44 Colt/Special/Russian that is my main caliber. The Schofield, of course is .45 Colt/Schofield which I also have and load.

I won a $50 engraving certificate from Aspen Filly, so I just sent off the backstraps of my engraved conversions to her to have "Liberty" and "Justice" added.  :D

TL, will you be shooting 44 Colt in the Type II?

Absolutely shooting .44 Colt!  I still have about 600 rounds for Truth and Justice. Most is part of the 1,000 rounds of Load-X 205 grain I got with Truth and Justice, and some is stuff I loaded with 205s and Trail Boss.

Looking forward to hearing how it performs at the match.

I am too.  My sSchofield is dead nuts on with my Trail Boss load under a 230 RN lead, and my 44 Colt loads are dead on from Truth and Justice, and should be good from the 8 inch Cimarron.

Hopefully yours will be set up better than mine.  On my last Type II .44, the bolt head was still protruding too much out of the frame at half-cock, putting a line around the cylinder the first time I turned it at the receiving FFL.  >:(

Well, all is well.. looks great and timing seems spot on.  Way too busy to take pics,  but started 10 day Commiefornia jail.  Can pick it up the day before I leave for the match.

Also just finished working on the Winchester Model 12 I had the barrel bobbed to 18.5 inches for Wild Bunch match on that Wednesday afternoon.  It will double as my Bear Gun, will be kept in my 24' RV trailer filled with 6 slugs, for when my wife and I dry camp in the High Sierras.  The bears have gotten so bad around here, that I hike in the mountains with a Glock 20 10mm with a 15 round magazine.  With the loads I have, its basically a 16 shot 41 Magnum.

I was inventorying my SASS ammo.  While I haven't shot much in the last year and a half, I have loaded up my brass.  I have 750 rounds of .44 Colt, 500 rounds of .45 Schofield, 350 rounds .45 ACP (230 grain lead Wild Bunch), 700+ rounds of .44-40, and 350 rounds of 12 gauge   Featherlite shells.  Should do me for two annual matches, and 3 or 4 monthly matches, also.  Should be enough for the next year....

 :) Hey TL ;)

Nah.  Turn the lights back on inna loading room.  You obviously ain't gotz near enough.  Let's get busy now and get those stocks replenished!!  After all you'r gonna need a goodly pile to go out and plink-n-roll cans ya know.

Marshal Will Wingam

It's good to be using some previously loaded ammunition. Featherlight shells with Winchester AA Lite powder or another equivalent powder?

Winchester AA Low Recoil, low noise, 950 fps, 12 Gauge 2.75" 26 Gram 7/8oz # 8 25rd.

Its like shooting a light 20 gauge.  With the Limb Saver, slip on recoil pad, recoil is almost non-existent.  I have detached vitreous in both eyes, so I can't do heavy recoil.

I used to buy those featherlight AA's at Wally World for $7.97 until they disappeared in the pandemic so I started reloading and it is easy to load light shells that approximate that recoil (some go lighter still).  Those AA's are usually $12 or $13 now when you find them.

Those are outstanding shells. I used those initially but then started loading similar loads with Winchester AA Lite powder. Unfortunately Hodgden has discontinued it. I'm just about out so I'll be looking for the next best thing.

Marshall, there are lots of fast powders that make great light shotshells.  I've used Clays but use Winchester WST now.  Red Dot, Promo, 700x, Extra-Lite are all good for this but pricey and some are hard to find.  Hodgdon powders have kept their prices lower than most, and their Perfect Pattern powder is supposed to be really good for light loads and is available.

Sorry for the hijack, TL  :)
