Questions for the Ones Who Know
« on: March 21, 2006, 02:29:30 AM »
Hey, guys, I have a full-flap military holster with a small problem and I'd like to get advice. There are two domed brass rivets securing the closing strap that look good from outside, but when you flip it over they're the type that spread out into six "petals" on the bottom, and I'm pretty sure they're not correct for the 1860s. Am I right, or are they okay authenticity-wise? If they're wrong, what kind do I need and where can I get them? TIA,
Yours, &c.,

The tab correct ?
originals were sewn in half circle ( some around a rivet and burr , others no rivet & burr ) defending on contractor

Gaylord ( had the rivet) C&D Jarnagens in Cornith, Miss. make a great copy of the Gaylord pattern.

I've even seen two line stitch on the tab.

No stitching on the tab, Major. Two vertical rivets, slight dome shape, brass colored on top, with the six "petals" underneath. I found a Tandy leather store 10 minutes away, they have scads of stuff, I got some #12 and #14 post-and-burr rivets that look far more period-correct, with the sets to fit them. I'll grind away at the petals to remove the old rivets and replace them.

Frenchie

I've seen the style you describe (I think) two chrome star clench rivets and an open toe ?? Right ?

They are or were sold by Dixie Gun Works.... not correct and about $20 .

the photo CQMD posted looks like a Gaylord contract (Maker)

I think I have a C&D Jarnagain Holster in one of the prop trailers (that's loose ,not on a belt).

Several folks , have been very generous to pards, here , I'll carry on the tradition...

If I can find it , it's yours... If you want it .

It looks just like the photo and has been worn several Films .
