Brill/Heiser Hybrid
« on: December 06, 2021, 11:03:41 AM »
After Major 2 posted about the carry holster he wanted, I got to thinking about the Brill vs the Heiser designs. Since I like both, I combined the aspects I preferred and came up with this. I made it out of belly leather to test the design With a few changes, this would be a good design. The leather was so soft, it wouldn't burnish and when I tried, it covered the stitching in a couple places but what the heck, it was a test pattern for several ideas. I'll modify the pattern slightly for a final construction.

For ease of assembly, I just attached the ends of the strap with rivets (I wasn't too careful about setting them properly since this is only a test holster.

On a holster made with good leather, the toe would get burnished after stitching.

I'm humbled to read I might be the inspiration of your cool design, I used Chicago screws on my strap and tagged the toe down with one as well.
My prototype has served me well enough, I've yet to make another  :-\

Nice job and good looking test holster. Do you plan to do another in a better leather?

Yep. You got me going and I had to try this out to stop thinking about it. Thanks for that. Chicago screws are a great idea. I may do that on the next one. I assemble all my daily wear belts with them. Yeah, when you get something that works, the pressure for another one is eased and other things can get in the queque ahead of it. ;D

Thanks. I will definitely make one with better leather. Since it isn't a holster I need, it may be a while but I'll post it here when the time comes.

This was also a test of how that stamp looked. Although I made it many years ago, I haven't really used it for anything because it's rather small and few projects are small enough for it to look right. It will go with it on other small projects when appropriate. The color was an additional test but I'm not sure about that yet.
