CAS City Classifieds / Re: WTB - .45-75 cases made from resized .348 W-W brass

Regarding the question about the availability of .348 Winchester brass, it appears that Starline makes it now.  I found some sources on the internet that say Hornady has made some as well.
I currently have 32 cases made from W-W .348 brass.  They load and feed well in my original 1876 rifle.  My experience is that W-W make brass has a thinner neck which makes it easier to use a .459" bullet and still have the round cycle correctly.
I have not had any luck with .45-75 cartridges made from resized and trimmed .50-90 Sharps brass.  That is what Buffalo Arms is currently selling.  Maybe it works in the modern Uberti or Chaparral reproductions.  I don't know.
I would be interested in acquiring some W-W .348 brass.  I can probably beg Buffalo Arms to size and trim it for me.  I'm not sure about loaded .348 rounds, but might be interested.  Please PM and let me know what you want for them.

If you are using fatter boolits you might be on the right track with winchester brass. I use 348w based cases in my Uberti and .460 sized boolits there is pretty much zero neck tolerance with that combo.
I made up an outside neck swage die I run the loaded rounds through before I pack them - only takes the tiniest bit of distortion at the crimp groove to foul things up .

Gotta say thanks for the heads up here - I have a 348 model 71 browning - got about 150 rounds of Winchester brass loaded for it - sounds like might be smart to buy starline for that gun and recycle the winchester brass back for more for the 45/75. cuz that neck thickness is a definite issue for me.

Boone:
I just got done doing 40 rounds of 50Sharps cases.  I have a lathe so that helps.  I run them thru my RCBS Trim die and cut them off and then in the lathe, I trim the rims both around and in front and in back and have never had any problems.  I know that some folks think that I am sort of a Nut but that is the way I do it.  Years ago, I used--and still have and use 348 cases.  Venterino said that those cases will show a "Bottleneck" just in front of the rim.  That is true but I did find that after several reloadings those dissappeared.  So-- after all this blab, all I can say is that I have a Uberti '76 and have had it for over 10 years.  It has the larger chamber which allows me to use more BP but other than that,  I got alot of 50 Sharps brass both loaded and not-yet!  So whatever suits you go for it.  I do know that 348 brass around here is about as scarce as hen's teeth.

I could spare 50 new Starline

I sent some to another just this week, sadly shipping is pricy
true, the other guy in the post I sold the schofield brass to, after the shipping cost I barely had any $$$ to show for it. All went to gasoline plus some the next day. These times stink.

I am in need of .45-75 cases made from resized .348 W-W brass.  The W-W make .348 brass works very well and feeds correctly in my .45-75 rifles.  Fired is OK.   Let me know what you have and what you want for it.
I know Buffalo Arms sometimes has these.  They are currently out of stock and the stuff they sell now is not W-W make brass.
I have had good luck with W-W make cases, I don’t want to change horses in the middle of the stream…
As a scammer prevention tool, I will only deal with established members, preferably known to me from the 1876 rifle thread.  Times we live in...
i have 160 or so loaded .348 winchester rounds. I believe 6 are vintage winchester on an old original opened box, 1 or 2 boxes of the winchester they made in the 80’s I believe, and 80-100 rounds of hsm modern ammo. I know it’s not exactly what you’re looking for but just thought I’d throw it out there as I sold my model 71 and forget I had the ammo. Will be trying other ways to sell it soon. Thanks.

OKIEPAN, I haven't heard a whisper from you, either here or by PM, so I can assume you are either dead, indisposed, or decided against it after all that. I've received payment for the other two, and if I don't hear from you real soon, I'm going to ask if the other buyer still wants the third one, as per the original offer of all three for $600, and ship them all out together tomorrow or Monday.
