Took my 1850 Foot Officers Sword (wht to Gettysburg on SWA from Phoenix to BWI.  Called them first to find out the deal, they said it was ok in checked bags.  Told them I was going to transport in gun case with a BP Pistol, no problem just declare the gun first and fill out the form.  Would not have had to declare the sword if that was all that was in case.  They did recommend a locked bag.

Years ago flew from Texas to Phoenix with a Take Down Recurve Bow in a shotgun case, was paged to the baggage office, two Phoenix Police Officers were standing there and I was asked to open the gun case.  I did they saw it was a bow and not an undeclared gun and thanked me.  Expect if I were an undeclared gun the outcome would have involved stainless bracelets.
