Spencer Replicas

Maybe 12 years ago there was a story on The American Shooter about Ken Howell's Spencer replica.  That's what got me interested in these guns and I've tried to follow them ever since.

Howell never finished his gun.  Dane Piper was the money behind it and probably lost his shirt.  After Howell left this project, Piper continued for years making, maybe a dozen guns before giving up.  I've seen one of these advertised at the Dixie web site and I know of another.

Then there is Larry Romano.  Absolute works of art.  Only gun I ever sold because it was going to make my sick if I scratched it up when I shot it.  Of course it has doubled in cost after I sold my rifle.  God, I think, has an interesting sense of humor.

Also there are the Taylor guns.

But there were others.  There is a Spencer rifle company.  Spencer's are displayed right on their web site.  They apparently make a number of rifles but not Spencers.  Odd.  They had apparently intended to make Spencers but got side tracked.

Then there was a fellow a decade or so ago, I've forgotten his name, who was buying up incomplete originals.  The plan was to get enough parts to make new carbines from old parts.  I'm pretty sure that he spent a lot of money on this idea but I never heard of a company being formed to sell these guns.

Are there any others?  Did, for example, the Little Rifle Shoppe, ever produce Spencers?

Fletcher-Bidwell is the name of the Ken Howell/Dane Piper company after Ken left.

They never replied to several calls & emails... I guess they had folded ...
