WTB Stock for 1868/1870 Trapdoor
« on: October 23, 2022, 10:42:13 AM »
Looking for a stock off of an 1868 or 1870 Trap Door Springfield. One damaged in the butt stock or wrist area preferred. Replacing the forearm on an 1865 Burnside Spencer that is one of the 1100 or so that were converted by Springfield Armory from Carbines to Rifles.

The forearm on the one I recently acquired was replaced with a 3 band forearm from a reproduction. Would like to return it to the original 2 band configuration.

I'd ask S & S firearms who makes their Spencer rifle forends.  Don't know if they're two band or three band.  It's going to be pretty tough finding a damaged stock.  It's usually the end you want that's missing, as I'm sure you're aware.

S&S is out of stock.  Posting here as I may get lucky.

Was shooting the breeze with another shooter and happened to mention I was looking for a stock.

He had just gotten rid of one about 9 months ago that was cracked in the wrist area.

Even if the fore end is cracked, as long as it was repairable I would still buy it if the right price.
