I would just build up the front of the cam with a tig weld or even silver solder and re-shape ,if you have not got the gear there will be someone close who has, magizine spring can be put off for a time

Hi Herbert,

I built it up with JB Weld and it will probably hold just fine, but I found the parts, and a great manual, at Chiappa Firearms.  Dixie had a cam for an original Spencer, Taylor's was a bust, never got through to S&S.   The spring is one of those just in case things, if I shoot live eventually and need a heavier spring.  Ordered two cams from Chiappa, they were only $7.00 each and Taylor's wanted $20.  I am amazed at how well the cartridges run now.

Thanks everyone for the help, it is much appreciated.

smitttyc7,

The JB Weld may hold up for a time with the plastic blank rounds, but not with the live rounds.
Best suggestion I can make is to find a "welder" and get the job done on correctly. You may not like the price but it is one you have to pay. Especially if you don't have the replacement parts, or they are not available before you start filing/grinding away on what you do have.
Sorry to be the one to say "I told you so"!
My best,

Herbert,
What length cartridge are you using with this cam setup?
Thanks, John

I use a cartridge OAL of 1.6 inch but I have modified my extractor-cartridge stop so it will feed from 1.55 to 1.67 ,I find that a OAL of 1.6 or very close is the best OAL for original Spencers, can not recall if this length works with a unmodified extractor(I modified mine so I could use a Spencer cut-off that I made) but I think it might if not it is a simple matter to modify the extractor so it will
